The Role

The Client Relationship Management Team serves as the liaison between the firm's institutional clients and the operational and functional business partners within American Century including senior management, investment management, legal, compliance and investment operations. The team performs a number of critical services for our clients including onboarding, day-to-day servicing, asset retention and cross-sales. The group covers a broad range of clients including but not limited to Defined Contribution & Defined Benefit plans, Endowments & Foundations, Taft-Hartley, Sovereign Wealth and Outsourced CIOs.

As a Client Relationship Manager, you are the primary point-of-contact for the firm, operating as the strategic coverage lead for each ACI client relationship. You are tasked with delivering an exceptional client experience for American Century's clients. In this critical role, you will act as the voice of the client, representing them to senior management, distribution leadership, investment management and the business development teams.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Lead client onboarding execution and delivery - ensuring that each client is seamlessly transitioned from the sales team to the relationship management team.
  • Serve as the Point Person for the Client - Understanding the unique needs of large, complex institutional clients.
  • Represent the Client to the Firm - Serving as their representative to key internal partners as well as the broader firm.
  • Expand the Relationship with the Firm - Deepen the relationship through assisting in client profiling, introductions to key partners (ex. Direct Sales and DCIO teams), identifying cross sale candidates and opportunities.
  • Operate as a Trusted Advisor - Function in an advisory capacity to the client, demonstrating outstanding knowledge of ACI products and how those products can address their existing and future needs.
  • Contribute to Overall Growth of the Business - Through the firm's initiatives around client retention and expansion.
  • Problem Solving - Providing timely, transparent and direct resolution of issues and transactions.
  • Partner Management - Effective coordination between internal and external business partners
  • Client Communications - Deeply understanding and meeting the needs of reporting requirements; dissemination of information on time
  • Risk Assessment - Understanding and assessing the risks of each client in real time, understanding corporate actions (including consultant change, recordkeeping changes, committee changes, M&A transactions, etc.)

Required Skills

  • Related Experience - A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in the investment management industry, with significant experience in client relationship and/or institutional sales required.
  • Relationship Management Skills - Proven track record of providing coverage for a broad range of institutional clients through successfully establishing and maintaining relationships across all levels
  • Collaborative Orientation - Collaborative player experienced at mentoring junior talent and successfully operating within a team-based environment, functioning at a high level and driving others to follow.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset - Ambitious, highly motivated self-starter with the ability to set priorities, build an action plan, organize and follow-through on deliverables.
  • Detail Oriented - Evidenced by strong organizational skills and committed to deliver high-quality, accurate, error-free work with an eye towards meeting critical deadlines on time.
  • Mental Agility - Displaying good judgement, critical thinking and crucial decision-making skills.
  • Technical Knowledge - Strong investment acumen, advanced degree (MBA)and/or CFA designation preferred.
