Vice President (VP) of Merchant Risk

As a key member of the GreenSky leadership team, the VP of Merchant Risk has senior management responsibility for protecting GreenSky, along with its customers and bank partners from riskassociated with merchants. The VP of Merchant Risk is responsible for designing and implementing long term strategies designed to detect and mitigate merchant risk in all phases of the GreenSky business model. This leader is responsible for the development of tactical fraud prevention and detection processes as well as oversight of the GreenSky Merchant Risk Management team. It is imperative that the VP of Merchant Risk demonstrates a combination of strong business acumen, the ability to identify, manage and mitigate merchant risk (including small business underwriting, testing for compliance with GreenSky rules and customer satisfaction) and the ability to collaborate effectively across the enterprise. Deep merchant risk expertise, analytical skills and superior results-orientation are essential.

Travel: Minimal travel, if any is required.

Organization: This position reports to the SVP of Operations, with horizontal alignment accountabilities to the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Credit Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and the Enterprise Chief Operating Officer.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Risk Categories: Risk Categories include

               Merchant identification fraud or take over (i.e., criminal entity or former employee masquerading as a legitimate merchant);

               Consumer identity theft (i.e., fraudulently processing consumer credit applications or payment transactions perpetrated by merchant or consumer)

               Transaction fraud (i.e., merchant processing payment transactions not authorized by consumer and/or fraudulent parties accessing GreenSky consumer account numbers)

               Merchant performance (i.e., merchant business failing prior to job completion; or poor quality or not completing jobs timely)

               Merchant violation of GreenSky operating rules (i.e., maximum percent of sales that can be funded prior to job completion and/or misleading consumers relative to product or financing)

Risk Mitigation: The VP of Merchant Risk is responsible for designing and building high performance systems that identify and prevent fraudulent merchant transactions and identity theft in the merchant and consumer portfolios. This is achieved through a combination of automated and manual investigations and monitoring of the merchants and customers of GreenSky?s programs.

Analytical and Problem-solving Skills: Analyze multiple data points in order to detect risk trends in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to work independently and make complex investigation decisions with little to no guidance.

Infrastructure Building: The VP of Merchant Risk is responsible for building and developing world-class risk management practices, providing the right mix of analysis, investigation, and tactical execution.

Motivation & Goal Setting: The VP of Merchant Risk is responsible for meeting or exceeding portfolio fraud loss objectives. driving initiatives to achieve tactical and strategic objectives to detect and prevent fraudulent and high-risk transactions, reinforcing Company confidence in the eyes of legitimate customers, and serving as an analytical leader for new enterprises in fraud detection.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Education:

Proven prior capabilities as a subject-matter expert in identifying and preventing merchant and consumer fraud, resulting in the development and implementation of policies and practices that safeguard transaction- and payment-processing systems; and monitor, track, and manage risks to ensure the long-term security of stakeholder assets.

Ability to collaborate with other GreenSky departments (specifically Compliance, Credit, Human Resources, and Information Technology) in the development and implementation of aligned financial crime mitigation strategies and tactics.

Ability to determine situational needs and provide appropriate solutions.

Fifteen (15) + years of progressive, successful merchant risk or merchant fraud mitigation experience.

A demonstrated track record of innovation in fraud/financial crime prevention

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Undergraduatedegree or equivalent experience in fraud investigation, criminal justice, financial crimes, business/accounting forensics, or related field required. Master's preferred.
