This is a market facing position and we are looking for someone with a strong sales mindset who will proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities, as well as identify growth opportunities.
Responsible for producing, underwriting and retaining profitable business for the company, - Vice President (VP) of Surety’s primary task is to underwrite, maintain and grow the BTIS portfolio in accordance with the business plan, strategy, authority levels and regulatory environment. Responsible for utilizing your sales/marketing, relationship building and analytical skills to analyze and underwrite new and renewal Surety business.
This individual will have a broad range of responsibilities in working with both the Surety Claims and Underwriting Departments. This is a highly technical and market facing position and requires experience with Surety lines of business.
In this role you will:
Think strategically as it relates to national and local strategy.
Successfully execute and drive business results across assigned territory to include developing the business plan.
Manage operational complexities across multiple varied territories and physical locations.
Foster strong partnerships and has the ability to influence outcomes at various levels within the organization.
Play a key role partnering with Underwriting leadership, Specialty distribution and business partners.
Leadership & Coaching:
Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management; actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback.
Delegates and effectively leads through others to achieve results.
Influence team by modeling strong relationship building with key stakeholders to encouraging use of timely and effective communication.
Effectively present information to influence organizational leaders and key stakeholders.
Technical Underwriting:
Collaborates with the internal Creative Team to create mockups for the final product.
Ensures that IT understand each project's requirements, coordinate with them.
Assists IT team in clarifying requirements and helping them to understand the business side.
Verifies that the product meets customer needs by reviewing feedback from customers or conducting usability testing.
Communicates with stakeholders to ensure everyone is on the exact same page about features, functionality, deadlines, and other details.
Prioritizes product backlog items based on their business value, the time required to complete them, and the order they were created.
Reviews prototypes and other proofs of concepts for feasibility prior to launch.
Communication of project status and roadblocks with other members of the team.
Portfolio & Sales Management:
Builds strong relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) and our customers in support of business retention and acquisition of new business is a key responsibility of this role.
Identifies growth opportunities by determining our customer’s insurance needs and providing the right solutions will also be a critical responsibility of this position.
Achieves gross written premium, retention, and new business plans.
Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, operational, planning and product reviews.
Internal marketing and production in support of our cross-sell efforts
Execution of the external marketing strategy
Adherence to underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws, regulations
Establish new as well as develop existing agency and broker relationships
Provide guidance, research, review, analysis, drafting, and negotiation for all aspects of contract and commercial surety and its related transactions.
Compliance:
Actively collaborate and coordinate with Surety Underwriters on existing and emerging claim matters and provide subject matter expertise on indemnity and legal matters.
Working within limits and authorities on assignments of varying degrees of complexity.

SALARY RANGE: $100k - $150k and is dependent upon several factors including geographical location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge pertaining to this role and industry.
COMPENSATION: This position is eligible to participate in our discretionary bonus plan.
