The current work mix of the company is 60% reroofing projects and 40% new roof projects. King Sheet Metal is the company subsidiary based in Seattle, WA. Founded 4 years ago, the company has experienced 100% year over year growth since its inception. Due to this exponential growth, the organization is looking for a VP of Operations to lead a team and serve as one of the key strategic leaders of the organization. This role is perfect for a strong business leader with operational expertise and the capability to build and lead a world class team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

King Sheet Metal is seeking a self-motivated, results-focused VP of Operationsresponsible for helping the Company to achieve its financial goals and objectives and increase operating performance. The Director is also responsible for carrying out the strategic plan through overseeing operations, developing functional roles and assigning responsibilities to employees who report to them. Successful candidates will have a professional attitude and thrive in improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies. The company has approximately $12M in annual revenue and 65 employees. This role will lead a team to achieve financial goals and objectives and increase operating performance. Direct reports include a team of Project Managers and Superintendents. The role will serve as a key member of the company's executive leadership team.

This critical position will own accountability for the active roster of 20+ ongoing and future projects. Reporting to the Division President, the VP of Operations is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all division activities to meet profitability targets and overall corporate objectives including: preparing budgets, creating business plans, solving internal issues as they arise; meeting safety standards; internal team building; maintaining excellent client and vendor relations; exceeding margin and revenue goals; early project deliveries, and implementing best practices.

This is a proactive problem-solving role and will be tasked with ensuring that teams have all resources needed to effectively meet company objectives and will own accountability for maximization of efficiency and productivity.

Key Goals in Year One

  • Recruiting and building a strong, cohesive team
  • Assess current operational systems and recommend/implement best practices to meet operational goals resulting in an improved bottom line
  • Meet and exceed group revenue, group overhead, and project margin goals.
  • Become fully versed in the company's preconstruction, cost-estimating, project management, and other related systems.
  • Develop a comprehensive training program for office & field

Specific Role Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with President to maintain strategic goals of Operations.
  • Ensures safety and quality standards are met at all times
  • Responsible for shop operations.
  • Work with production team to schedule shop fabrication.
  • Oversee and help facilitate field personnel.
  • Direct reports to include Project Managers, Superintendents, Shop Foreman, and Project Engineer
  • Train, motivate, challenge, encourage and provide constructive coaching as necessary.
  • Identify, coordinate and conduct necessary trainings.
  • Conduct job interviews. Guide and motivate new employees.
  • Attend weekly production meeting, staff meetings, and safety meetings.
  • Effective supervisory and organizational skills.
  • Promote cooperation, communication, and coordination between the job site and the office.
  • Work closely and communicate regularly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with other departments and other key stakeholders on assigned projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Establish policies and procedures for project flow, submittals, material procurement, etc.
  • Oversee the inventory and ordering of materials.
  • Responsible for fleet vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Ensure all policies, procedures, and controls are followed.
  • Monitors physical progress and financial performance of projects.
  • Reviews safety plans and ensures the safety of field personnel.
  • Reviews punch lists and project closeout.
  • Resolves problems in a creative and strategic manner while keeping the Company's best interest in mind.
  • Proactively anticipate problems and present solutions.

Key Qualifications

  • Technical understanding of architectural sheet metal products and installation procedures.
  • Track record of managing multiple project teams ranging from thousands in value to multi-million dollar projects.

  • Experience leading a team of Project Managers and their related teams with a strong understanding of production and production metrics of field teams.
  • Experience with a wide range of commercial metal roofing and waterproofing projects.
  • Expertise in prioritizing between competing issues, project needs, business needs, organizational issues, and client relations while making judgments using sound insight and wisdom.
  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of commercial sheet metal solutions including proposals, negotiating, bidding, estimating, contracting, scheduling, job-costing, bonds, insurance, and government requirements.

· Strong computer skills and an in-depth understanding of database-structured programs and reporting, including Enterprise Project Management systems, King's software choices include MS Office, Viewpoint, and Bluebeam

Requirements

  • Degree in construction related field such as project management or equivalent work experience is acceptable in lieu of college education.
  • 5+ years' industry knowledge and experience in a similar capacity.
  • Extensive background in architectural/sheet-metal/fabrication.
  • Knowledge of break metal, roofing, siding, and composite panels.
  • Familiarity with the local market and common manufacturers.
  • Attention to detail and experience managing staff

Location: Federal Way, WA (a city within the Seattle metropolitan area)
