Overview

The VP of Finance will oversee the day to day financial responsibilities at Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City and their responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide overall direction of the finance department to include accounting, revenue audit, compliance, cage and vault operations in such a manner as to provide safe, effective and efficient financial services.
  • Establish department standards, guidelines and objectives and maintains other administrative processes such as budget and staffing to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of assigned areas.
  • Develops reporting and monitoring systems to accomplish company objectives, maintain control of assets and fulfill regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

These functions are intended as a general illustration of the work performed in this job classification and are not all inclusive for this position

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Committee in order to provide a point of view for strategic and business planning.
  • Administers operating and capital budgets.
  • Staff, schedule, evaluate, train, develop, monitor and lead subordinate personnel in such a manner to maintain a positive employee relations culture. Recommend wage increases, promotions, demotions, discipline and other employment actions for subordinate personnel.
  • Motivate and supervise staff in order to ensure that employees receive adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established departmental and guest service objectives.
  • Establish department standards, guidelines and objectives and maintains other administrative processes such as budget and staffing to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of assigned areas.
  • Develops reporting and monitoring systems to accomplish company objectives, maintain control of assets and fulfill regulatory compliance.

  • Directs the activities of Accounts Payable, Revenue Audit, Planning & Analysis, General Ledger and Payroll.
  • Be responsible for opening and closing the books for each month.
  • Push back against Directors to ensure that items are coded correctly on profit/loss statements.

Qualifications

Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain valid gaming license
  • Demonstrated financial management experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, as well as outside contacts
  • Ability to review, edit and comprehend all necessary documentation
  • Strong Computer proficiency; ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and applicable financial software
  • Effective organizational skills required
  • Experience with capital and operational budgets
  • Courageous leader
  • Ability to stand their ground when making unpopular and/or difficult decisions , that are beneficial to the company both in the short-term and long-term
  • Responds favorably to constructive criticism from Superiors and Peers.
  • Understanding their role as it relates to their relationship with the General Mgr at each property as well as the Corporate Finance Department.

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in finance or related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience and responsibility or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
