General Purpose of the Job:

The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for leading the planning, development and execution of QuadMed's sales and growth strategies; this includes accountability for new business development, sales management as well as marketing and branding initiatives. The VP will drive revenue, selling the unique QuadMed value proposition into large employer groups. The responsibility to generate revenue will be executed through successful sales, leveraging vendor relationships, marketing and innovative solutions for current and prospective clients and their employees/patients. With a consultative and solution-based sales approach, it requires the VP to develop tailored approaches that gain buy-in throughout large, heavily-matrixed organizations.

To further grow QuadMed's market share, the VP will develop business development and product development strategies to include ancillary and partner relationships of healthcare and wellness services to enhance the differentiated value proposition QuadMed has to offer.

It will be paramount that the VP is experienced working with the employer segment and health benefits broker network, healthcare consultants and other employer influencers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for building QuadMed's presence as a premier provider of employer based health and wellness services and effectively leading the overall marketing plan to achieve and/or exceed the business plan and objectives through the execution of growth, sales, marketing, account management and product development strategies for QuadMed.
  • Leads QuadMed's growth strategy through identification of sales opportunities that are consistent with the strategy of the business and takes appropriate action to address these opportunities and meet established revenue growth goals.
  • Leads overall marketing strategy including marketing, branding, business to business and public relationship strategies to support successful sales, client support, and product advancement.
  • Leads product development strategies supporting innovative solutions for our patients and clients to advance growth, support differentiation and competitive advantage.
  • Drives strategic account solutions/account management and retention strategies to provide consultative and strategic partner relationships with our clients improving retention and advancing revenue growth through current clients.
  • Serves as focal point for future and current customers by representing the company's business development growth within the healthcare market and establishing key relationships in target areas including brokers, consultants and channel partners.
  • Assesses future growth opportunities and strategic partnerships aligned with the strategic growth direction.
  • Works across multiple functions and business areas and will lead the development and presentation of growth strategies and opportunities organization wide.
  • Leads the market assessments, develop new opportunities and advocates for new business resources, and coordinate win efforts.
  • Develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Ensures solutions are consistent with organizational objectives and financial goals
  • Recruits, hires and manages business development team
  • Position will be assigned to specific targeted business area/customer relationship and may require additional or specific job duties related to assigned function which are not aforementioned


  • Full scope of QuadMed to include all geographic regions and product lines.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Business Administration
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration is desirable
  • Proven record of successfully growing a healthcare business with expanded customers and markets domestically and/or internationally
  • Minimum 15 years in healthcare business development, program management or strategic planning
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing assigned healthcare business
  • Experience building and managing customer and vendor relationships with assigned customers to seek out and identify new business opportunities in healthcare markets
  • Demonstrated networking capabilities among the healthcare community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of benefit consultants and the competitive landscape of healthcare
  • Complete understanding of business development that includes contract cost and pricing principles that translates efforts in achievements especially in acquiring new and follow-on business.
  • Ability to integrate regulatory, customer, political and market information into effective business strategies and plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work effectively with care providers, healthcare leaders, senior managers, internal employees, and the general public
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to coach, lead, motivate and influence others to support corporate goals and objectives
  • Ability to interact effectively with C-level executives in healthcare systems
  • Familiarity with healthcare plans, payors, and healthcare rules and regulations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Credible voice to interact effectively with C-level executives and decision makers. Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organizational leadership in the adoption of plans and tactics.
  • Demonstrated networking capabilities among the healthcare community
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker with highly developed organizational, planning and management skills
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coach, lead, motivate, and influence others to achieve corporate goals and objectives
  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills that has led to sustained relationships with clients, brokers, and healthcare consultants.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and assess complex, contracting documents.
  • Prior experience integrating regulatory, customer, political, and market information into effective business strategies and plans.
