AP Professionals is searching for a Vice President of Accounting, ready to join a privately held company headquartered in Rochester, NY. This is an opportunity to join a top five Rochester company with an impeccable reputation. This role will manage the corporate accounting department and manage a business unit poised for significant growth, including department build out and expansion. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of SEC rules and regulations. This is an ideal position to transition to from public accounting. This position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer & Treasurer, who also transitioned directly from public accounting.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities - Corporate:

  • Set accounting department priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Assume final stages of GAAP conversion and year one GAAPaudit
  • Guide the implementation of best-in-class processes and procedures to support institutional reporting requirements
  • Implement new processes/technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting outputs
  • Lead the accounting team to improve existing financial reporting (from timeliness and data integrity standpoint)
  • Lead the development and delivery of additional reporting for CFO/CEO usage
  • Provide guidance for technical accounting requirements, including stock-based compensation accounting and new accounting standard implementation
  • Maintain relationship with auditors, including negotiating fees and monitoring performance
  • Partner with internal departments to support cross-platform reporting
  • Additional duties as required

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities – Business unit:

  • Prepare fund for SEC registration (anticipated in 2-3 years)
  • Oversee and develop business unit Controller and Senior Accountant
  • Optimize and build out the accounting team (both in resources and their capabilities) to meet the current and future demands of the accounting function
  • Provide change management leadership – managing and coaching accounting staff through high volume of change initiatives and projects (both accounting specific and corporate wide)
  • Develop industry network to stay abreast of evolving trends and best practices
  • Maintain relationship with auditors, including negotiating fees and monitoring performance
  • Present at audit committee and board meetings
  • Provide technical accounting oversight and guidance


  • Proven track record of change management and the ability to think outside the box with the flexibility to pivot with changing priorities
  • Excellent decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to establish rapport, build and maintain effective relationship
  • Strong organization and follow-up skills; ability to effectively multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing a team of manager and director-level professionals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Board presence


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from a four-year accredited college or university required; Master's degreepreferred
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
  • 10-15 years of total experience, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Mix of public and private accounting experiencepreferred
  • Strong understanding of SEC rules and regulations
  • Experience managing an accounting department through significant change is a plus
  • High level proficiency Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
