Job Description


Direct and evolve the Enterprise Project Management Organization (EPMO) and facilitate administration of the governance process. The EPMO governance process is conducted primarily through a cross-functional group of executives who are charged with executing the responsibilities of the EPMO (the EPMO Committee). The EPMO has the following primary objectives:

  • Ensure initiatives contain outcomes aligned with the corporate strategy
  • Enhance organizational project management competency
  • Establish enterprise-wide governance providing prioritization and resource capacity management aligned with the corporate strategy
  • Provide enterprise-wide transparency to initiative progress and status
  • Improve probability and consistency of successful initiative outcomes
  • Define interaction with existing governance structures

This role requires significant interaction with peers, business leaders and executives to achieve these objectives and execute upon the resulting projects related to processes, systems and services for the enterprise. The programs and projects executed under this structure are typically high risk, complex, multi-year, cross departmental / divisional, and involve multiple technologies, vendors, and business units. This position will require supervisory responsibility for program managers aligned to major business units as well as to EPMO governance and participation in a matrix environment focused on management of consistent, outcomes-based methodology and reporting on initiatives.


Establish role as a trusted leadership resource to achieve cooperation, inspire and build high performing teams, and drive results using collaboration, targeted inquiry, advocacy, and strategic planning. Act as a highly visible partner across the enterprise to influence strategic decision-making as well as project and program delivery. Drive cross-functional execution of initiatives and programs that coordinates with all impacted stakeholders to support and achieve maximum economic impact and optimal business outcomes.

Lead through your team to oversee the operation of the EPMO including administering the current state execution methodology:

  • Facilitate the process to lead project owners through ideation and maintenance of a project backlog within the existing business unit structure.
  • Drive the process to gather the appropriate planning inputs to evaluate all resource demand against strategic priorities on an enterprise-wide basis.
  • Lead the review process by the EPMO committee and facilitate discussion as necessary to validate inputs, ensure completeness of information, evaluate project complexity and validate alignment to strategy.
  • Facilitate determination of resource need, allocation and timing by the EPMO committee.
  • Drive project approval evaluation based on priority and resource capacity.
  • Direct the enterprise-wide maintenance of an inventory of the active project and program portfolio.
  • Oversee the process to perform resource assignment, either directly from the EPMO or by coordinating with resources in a matrix environment.
  • Direct the process to monitor scope, budget, schedule, dependencies and progress toward project goals and outcomes that facilitates communication of such to the EPMO Committee, executive leadership and impacted stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate interface with finance subject matter experts on project budget monitoring and approval.
  • Facilitate consistent reporting of project status by project owners to drive accountability and transparency.
  • Ensure a review of all projects at conclusion with project owners occurs with appropriate identification of methodology to track project goals and outcomes

Develop and provide enterprise direction and structure for consistent maintenance of project artifact documentation including backlog, concept/intake documentation, schedule, budget, tasks, resources, goals, outcomes, change requests, risks, issues, decisions and project closure/evaluation.

Ensure appropriate training of executives, project owners, project managers, EPMO committee members and others on the EPMO process and tools. Interact with all levels of the organization ensure the EPMO process encompasses best practices for project management and supports effective, efficient execution.

Own, enhance and administer the systems and processes necessary to facilitate the achievement of the EPMO objectives. Drive execution of process or system enhancements as necessary or as directed by the EPMO Committee or the executive team.

Prepare and facilitate delivery of communication to appropriate constituents on the EPMO process, project and program portfolio (including prioritization) and measures of accomplishment. This should include all levels of the organization with appropriate tailoring of messaging for such diverse groups as the executive team, the EPMO Committee, project owners, and all employees.

Facilitate the process for identification of issues that inhibit execution of projects and drive resolution or escalation as appropriate to assist project owners. Engage the EPMO Committee or executives as appropriate. Maintain objective judgment and utilize influence to formulate and drive solutions.

Evolve the EPMO process, project governance and project execution of the organization by continually maturing the process and actively seeking feedback. Drive innovation and process improvement to enhance the effectiveness of the EPPMO process. Act as a representative of the EPMO team to champion the process and its governance framework.

Lead and develop a team of project management professionals including project managers, business analysts and program managers with a focus on facilitating execution of project work and supporting project owners to ensure their success.


  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience leading teams, managing projects and driving organizational change
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with peers, subordinates and executive management to drive business outcomes
  • Proven managerial skills in the development, coordination and implementation of programs, processes and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and communicate complicated information in a precise, simple, and accurate manner
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Proven ability to manage concurrent projects and end-to-end process design programs
  • Excellent leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to solve highly complex business problems demonstrating creative solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial services, asset/investment management and/or broker-dealer experience
  • Master’s degree in business, technology or another relevant discipline
  • Systems conversion or implementation experience
  • PMP or equivalent certification
  • Six Sigma certification
