Job Description

To overseepsychiatry and psychology clinical care across the VCU Health enterprise. Tobuild and grow clinical programs of excellence, innovate, and to fostercollaborative relationships between the department and our clinical partners,and the community we server.

Chief Purpose of this position:
The VirginiaCommonwealth University Department of Psychiatry is seeking an academicpsychiatry leader to serve as its inaugural Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs andProgrammatic Implementation, as well as Division Chief and Medical Director of theAdult Ambulatory Division.

Position Responsibilities:

As Vice Chair, this leader will be looked upon tobuild and grow clinical, research, and academic programs of excellence,innovate, and to foster collaborative relationships between the department andour clinical partners, the community we serve, and the academic medical center.The Vice Chair will be responsible for developing partnerships across theclinical spectrum with community hospitals across the VCU Health Enterprise,including Community Memorial and Tappahannock Hospital. The Vice Chair willalso partner with the Richmond VA Medical Center and the VCU Gold Health, whichprovides healthcare for health system employees.

As Division Chiefand Medical Director of the Adult Ambulatory Division, this leader will beresponsible for the operation and growth of the Department of Psychiatryambulatory division and clinical services in conjunction with theiradministrative counterpart and the Department Chair, including developingprograms in subspecialty outpatient clinics and primary care practices. Asa standalone division within the Department of Psychiatry, the Division Chiefwill oversee 24 faculty/providers with primary appointments in the division, aswell as additional faculty/providers who provide ambulatory psychiatryservices. The Division Chief and Medical Director will also evaluate the effectiveness of theDivision's clinical organization and implement changes as necessary to promotestrategic and operational effectiveness based on appropriate performancemetrics for quality, financial performance, productivity, etc.

Other duties include:
  • Clinical Patient care (50%)
  • Teaching-As part of clinicalresponsibilities, participates in clinical teaching
  • Research as applicable
  • Other-Maintains timelyelectronic patient record documentation and submits clinical billing. Adheres to all VCUHS, Department ofPsychiatry, and other regulatory policies and procedures

Required Qualifications:
  • MD/DO or equivalent Medical Degree
  • Clinical Training in Psychiatry and certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Virginia state medical licensure or eligibility
  • Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry program at a major academic healthcare organization
  • Leadership experience should include clinicalpractice oversight, strategic planning, direct faculty/provider oversight, andmanaging staffing and recruitment, and fostering of clinical research
  • Proven background in clinical care optimization,quality, safety and patient engagement
  • Academic credentials and experience to qualifyfor appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU Schoolof Medicine
  • Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and studentenvironment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
  • A strategic, energetic, and visionary skillset to foster innovation, growth, and novel program building
  • Experience fostering and leading medical education programming and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts in adult ambulatory Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated track record of active participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs focused on patient-centered care
