This professional will be a member of a Valuation Specialist Team with primary responsibility for overseeing daily security valuations and providing independent oversight of illiquid security valuations.
The individual should have subject matter expertise in security valuation models and will be tasked with implementing enhancements to the valuation oversight process. This position will be for an Analyst role within the team and ideally the candidate would have prior experience and expertise in valuation of Mortgage or Corporate Credit asset classes.
Engage with specialty portfolio management teams to challenge and review fair valuation recommendations.
Real-time oversight of security valuations especially in case of material event impacting certain securities or the market more broadly.
Engage with Risk team to review pricing models, pricing processes and assess potential impacts to portfolios from changes.
Perform valuation analyses and review model functionality, evaluate, and document the methodology employed, assumptions used, and conclusions reached.
Create standardized documentation for all fair valuation reviews and recommendations. Document inputs provided and rational for utilization of a model for each fair valued security.
Create standardized documentation for models and processes.
Implement enhanced testing of daily vendor pricing valuations and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner. Monitor, analyze and challenge vendors where appropriate.
Institute periodic fair valuation review meetings by asset class to review recommendations with Portfolio Managers.
Validate appropriate fair valuation models are applied and maintained for daily portfolio valuations.
Employ statistical techniques to back-test vendor or fair valued prices.
Collaborate with Pricing Operations team to fulfil internal and Board reporting requirements and provide audit support.
Ability to prepare and present summary results and answer questions to governing Committees and/or boards.
Bachelor’s degree from top tier accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or related field, required.
Prior experience working in top caliber financial services firm, with strong understanding of Finance and asset classes.
5+ years of valuation related experience at an investment manager, accounting firm, consulting firm or bank.
Demonstrated ability to utilize quantitative, statistical and mathematical financial techniques for independent fair valuations of securities including prior experience in model development, risk, valuation, and model validation development and implementation for Structured Products, Foreign Exchange, Equity, Fixed Income and OTC derivatives.
Ability to perform database management and programming of the valuation models, and at a minimum utilizing tools such as Excel (macros) and market data from providers such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, and Intex etc.
Able to handle multiple priorities concurrently and manage business expectations accordingly.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical, interpersonal communication and writing skills a must.
Well organized, high energy level / self-starter, must work well in team environment, especially with Portfolio Managers and Senior Leaders.
Comfortable working at fast pace, on trade floor environment. Strong work ethic and integrity, candidate should be a team player that is self-motivated.
