In this role, you will lead a team of designers responsible for the research, interaction design, user interface, and visual design of the rei.com website. You will establish work priorities, provide direction, and guide the team to create on-brand, high-impact experiences based on user needs and business requirements. You will also act as a digitalexperience representative in cross-divisional forums and collaborate with designers, developers, researchers, product and project managers, and business partners to grow REI’s competitive advantage as a leading retailer of quality outdoor gear and clothing.
Our ideal candidate has a background in user-centered design, is a keen evangelist for best-in-class user experiences, and has a proven ability to manage a user experience team in a collaborative environment.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
Provide coaching, direction, and leadership to foster employee achievement and success at the personal, departmental, and organizational level
Manage staffing for projects and initiatives that touch all parts of the business
Identify and implement process improvements forcommunication and alignment across the team and the division
Ensure that the team is informed about and executing against business strategy, and help individual designers can connect their projects and decisions to divisional and organizational goals
Promote open communication and collaborative problem solving

5+ years’ experience in user experience, user experience management, service design or closely-related fields
3+ years of experience with direct reports, building and leading teams
2+ years’ experience in user research, including conducting usability tests
Extensive experience with Sketch and Framer as wireframing tools (paper prototyping, Balsamiq, Invision)
Strong knowledge of user experience management deliverables such as personas, service blueprints, journey maps, etc.
Demonstrated experience facilitating, creating and documenting user experience strategy and best practices
Works smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well in order to produce quality work
Expertise in working cross-divisionally with partners of all levels to define optimal user experiences
Ability to multitask, utilizing exceptional written and verbal communication skills while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Degree in a related discipline: user experience, interaction or interface design, human-computer interaction (or equivalent)
Prior experience with optimizing cross channel user experiences
