Job Details

Are you comfortable with ambiguity yet oddly organized and talented at going from chaos to clarity? Are you fascinated by human behavior and curious about how organizational culture, context and technology connect? Then we’d love to hear from you!

The Business Technology Innovation team at Salesforce is looking for a design researcher who has an endless curiosity about why people do what they do, a passion for inventive problem solving, and is excited about working with our internal business executives and leaders to convey what is really meaningful to their internal and external customers. Our design researchers scope, plan, execute and analyze all aspects of research programs across all of our business organizations within Salesforce—bringing unique perspectives to solving our biggest and most important business challenges that impact our end-customer experience.

About Business Technology Innovation
Business Technology Innovation is an internal-facing, entrepreneurial innovation team within Salesforce. We help our own internal businesses, like Marketing and Sales, recognize and interpret forces of change in their business landscape and partner with them to plot a course towards a more robust, digital future, through human-centered design. And we help build and deliver that future by using our own world-class technology to set our business on a path of growth and change.

Our engagements combine elements of strategic advisory, visioning, user research, ideation, storytelling, value propositions, workshop facilitation, rapid prototyping, end-user concept testing, and product design.

  • Gather, prioritize and shape key questions from designers, business strategists, solution engineers, business analysts and our business partners into research objectives
  • Plan and conduct practical and impactful research that varies in approach, scope and timeframe
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings into a reframed business challenge and insights
  • Creatively convey those insights to the appropriate people in the most engaging manner
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary teams through various exercises
  • Confidently communicate a provocative point of view, both written and verbal, to C-suite executives

Basic Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience conducting research as part of an internal or agency team and/or academic studies in a relevant field (e.g., anthropology, business, cultural studies, design, psychology)
  • Strong foundation in qualitative methods and contextual inquiry
  • Sound ability to scope, plan, execute and analyze qualitative research
  • Willingness to experiment with research methods
  • Exceptional storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of an organization
  • Interest in working across a wide range of industries
  • Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative environment with a culture of critique
  • Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time (both national and international)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting qualitative research in a B2B setting
  • Experience with enterprise software solutions
  • Experience working in digital and emerging technologies
  • Experience with video editing and storytelling
