The self-motivated person who fills this position will be joining and contributing to a dynamic and determined team that will be assisting a local Southern California public sector client to successfully transform how they provide services to their respective clients. This digital transformation initiative will involve close collaboration with the client to architect, design, and develop a secure, user-centric, and mission-critical solution that will involve multiple teams that will be organized to meet the client’s needs through a fast-paced agile development approach within an heterogeneous DevOps environment. The transformative nature (anecdotally considered the “Uber” of the client’s business domain) and success of this project epitomizes an evolutionary disruption in our client’s industry that will likely be adopted by others. More importantly, this initiative will have a lasting positive impact on enhancing the citizen experience.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the country in different groups to help in the architecting and designing of this solution. This critical client initiative must integrate several complex components using modern and disparate technologies (hardware and software), some implemented by other third parties, securely and with the highest quality to address regulatory and compliance requirements

Seeking User Experience Designers with consulting experience to assist in product design of an expansive solution to realize our client’s transformative vision. The candidate will work on designing key aspects of the solution and work closely with many internal and external groups within an agile development environment.

The ideal candidate is a versatile designer comfortable creating and communicating user experiences that make complex sets of information easy to use and memorable. In this role you will work collaboratively with clients and other team members to understand user needs, explore and validate design solutions, facilitate collaborative design sessions and support the implementation of custom solutions. You will provide visual interaction, create documentation, and provide design direction across project lifecycles - from concept to implementation.

In this role, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
• Apply Human Centered Design methods to understand, clarify, and visualize key information including: business process maps, stakeholder relationships, user journeys, mental models and needs of users, low fidelity user interface wireframes, high-fidelity visual designs, and interactive prototypes.
• Participate in and/or co-facilitate collaborative workshops to uncover user needs, guide the conversation, and engage participants.
• Work visually to communicate abstract concepts and explain their strengths and weaknesses relative to the target audience and considering the business objectives.
• Solve complex problems by identifying and creating engaging, digital, experiences based on each client’s unique needs.
• Work quickly while maintaining appropriate fidelity levels to explore a variety of approaches.
• Seek feedback from clients, customers and peers, and integrate what you learn into solutions that are developed iteratively.
• Define the key components of user experiences and work with other designers to create a shared understanding of the underlying elements and patterns that will guide others as they carry the solution forward across the full project lifecycle.
• Work collaboratively with developers and project managers throughout the software build process and resolve problems that arise by providing design solutions, creating image assets, and defining specifications.
• Participate in the design, observation, and analysis of user research.

Minimum 8 years of professional experience in User Experience and/or visual design for web, mobile or other interactive media

The required qualifications are:
• Experience using typography, layout, and color in visual communication
• Strong visual communication knowledge and experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong desire to move projects forward and be proactive
• Have a portfolio that demonstrates a range of visual styles and interactive experiences, and the ability to guide a discussion through your approach to projects, design process, storytelling, etc
• Comfortable working independently yet prefer working in interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems, and have demonstrated experience partnering across teams to deliver high quality work.

• Able to seamlessly convey ideas, define requirements, and challenge assumptions to advocate for users while respecting others’ points of view.

• Have a grasp of current trends, including the process of rapid prototyping and designing modular component/pattern-based systems.
• Understand the fundamentals of front-end development and product management and how they intersect with design.
• Work in nimble manner and thrive in a feedback cycle measured in hours rather than weeks.
• Must have a proactive / “get it done” attitude and a proven background of delivering exceptional work.
• Experience working on consulting engagements
• Familiarity with agile and how design engages with agile development teams
