      • Education
        • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, with a license to practice in the state of Iowa.
        • Bachelor's degree in nursing or health administration preferred.

      • Experience
        • Three to five years of nursing management related experience.
        • Demonstrated compliance with the standards of compassionate service at a role model level.

      • License/Certifications
        • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
        • Current American Heart Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) Certification preferred.
        • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multi-state license to work in Iowa, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.

    • Essential Job Functions
      • Provides leadership and direction for the staff on the patient care unit(s) while supporting goals for the department, hospital, and health system.
      • Leads by example implementing management techniques and practices that create an environment that attracts and retains nursing staff.
      • Mentors staff and objectively evaluates and documents performance, taking corrective action as appropriate.
      • Completes employees' performance evaluation according to established timelines in collaboration with unit director.
      • Supervises unit orientation of new staff, providing direct feedback to orientee and preceptors.
      • Promotes clinical competence and enhances professional development and clinical education.
      • Supervises unit-based quality controls and performance improvement processes which support the facilities quality improvement program.
      • Supports quality related programs at the unit level including but not limited to patient satisfaction, patient safety, Joint Commission requirements, core measurement/clinical indicators, and physician satisfaction and staff engagement.
      • Monitors patient care operations, and related programs initiating appropriate changes.
      • Proactively supports patient safety and risk management through the occurrence reporting system. Responsible for follow up and documentation of all reported variances.
      • Communicates service, patient loyalty and HCAPS reports to staff and supports unit and facility projects and programs.
      • Investigates patient complaints and care related problems and communicates with Director working proactively to resolve issues.
      • Interacts with physicians on a routine basis to discuss and promote physician satisfaction with the unit and care provided.
      • Collaborates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders and stakeholders to promote service awareness.
      • Monitors department productivity and effective use of resources.
      • Oversees time and attendance system and reporting, works with director to provide consistence and accurate payroll systems.
      • Evaluates schedule coverage to provide cost effective staffing and collaborates with director to improve core staffing and scheduling.
      • Supports the development and implementation of annual operational plan for assigned areas of responsibility based on unit and facility goals.
      • Assists in the evaluation and documentation of goals, achievements, issues, and recommendations.
      • Actively represent nursing, department, and hospital on committees and provide two way communication with staff on related information.
      • Provides leadership to support staff and work processes to facilitate communication and patient care.
      • Oversees and supports inter-unit and disciplinary communication related to patient flow and bed control.
      • Provides direction and support to the charge staff nurse position.
      • Assists with the scheduling process for the unit(s), coordinates web scheduling processes, schedule development, and posting of final schedule.
      • Provides support to staff during the development, implementation, and utilization of information systems that impact the delivery of patient care services.
