  • understand and be able to discuss construction industry issues and their potential impact on the insurance industry
  • pro-actively engage in prospecting accounts in the assigned territory and work with management to strategically grow within the territory
  • through the field marketing representatives, strategically engage with partner agents that drive revenue with key account size business by promoting the firm’s products and services
  • evaluate and document contractor exposures and controls; analyze actuarial loss models using a layered and excess loss approach
  • price business to achieve positive returns within the framework of the organization's risk appetite
  • effectively negotiate renewals to achieve business unit goals, including rate/retention dynamics and policy terms and conditions
  • develop and execute stewardship service plan addressing claims, loss control and RMIS service needs
  • understand the agency planning process and impact of contingency/supplemental commission arrangements
  • collaborate with and mentor less experienced underwriters




  • seven or more years of underwriting experience focused on the construction sector
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities
  • experience in large account marketing and underwriting, preferably with experience in loss-sensitive programs, including familiarity with collateral models, wrap-ups and othercontractor specific coverage needs
  • analytical and critical thinking skills
  • understanding of portfolio management and ability to balance growth and profit dynamics to achieve company targets
  • self-starter with creative thinking and an ability to create opportunity
  • willingness to travel


  • college degree
  • CPCU/otherdesignations preferred
