Position summary

  • Cisco Unified Communications engineer working within the End User Compute Technologies department and reporting to the Global Head of Voice and UC Services
  • Responsible for providing support, maintenance and development of the company’s
    global Cisco unified communications environments
     
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco’s UC product range
     
  • Strong experience of configuring and troubleshooting CUCM v10+, dial plan/call routing issues in a complex integrated multi cluster environment
     
  • Strong experience of configuring and troubleshooting Cisco IOS H323/ISDN gateways and CUBE devices
     
  • Experience of troubleshooting PSTN connectivity over ISDN, SIP and analogue connections
     
  • Experience of Cisco UCCX/CCE scripting and troubleshooting
     
  • Administrative experience of Cisco Unity Connection
     
  • Strong experience of telephony protocols and concepts including SIP, SCCP, MGCP, SRST, TEHO, Extension Mobility, QoS, RTP, PSTN connectivity
     
  • Ability to produce documentation to a high standard


Duties & accountabilities

  • Responding to day to day fault management including incident reporting
  • Responsible for ensuring the stability of the unified communications environment
  • Providing administrative and engineering support on the various UC applications
  • Designing and implementing new UC solutions including new site deployments, office migrations, company acquisitions or office expansions
  • Developing and scripting new UCCX applications to meet business requirements or changes in requirements
  • Developing the voice strategy as new products are released or as business needs dictate
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date system documentation both low/high level designs, equipment inventories, number ranges and procedural documents
  • Monitoring the UC infrastructure using RTMT and CUOM
     
  • Acting as the point of escalation for unresolved UC issues
     
  • Acting as SME and providing support and mentoring to tier1 and tier2 IT support groups and where necessary engaging with end users
     
  • Maintaining the UC environment through system patching, addressing specific issues or taking proactive steps to ensure minimum down time
     
  • Working with vendors, procurement and project teams to deliver new UC requirements to the business
     
  • Provide out of hours and on call support for major incidents
  • Shift work required to support other geographical regions
     

Business competencies

At least 5 years’ experience of Cisco UC in a support and engineering role within a financial services organisation.

  • Awareness of carrier infrastructures
  • Awareness of project management processes
  • Awareness of Cisco UC licencing
  • Familiar with the Cisco UCS environment
  • Excellent written documentation skills in English
  • Willingness to work within a team and preparedness to accept delegated work
  • Familiar with change control processes

Education and experience

Bachelordegree in computer science, systems analysis or related study, or equivalent experience.
