As a Trial Attorney within our house counsel organization, you will be a member of our insurance defense litigation team, providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. Handling your own cases from beginning to end, you will also prepare legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in negotiating settlements. You will work closely with our customers and claims team to ensure all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes.  

Education and/or Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school required
  • Active license to practice law in California required
  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience preferred including auto insurance defense

  • Listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to litigate and try cases
  • Capable of working independently and as a team member
  • Proficiency at conducting expert discovery
  • Ability to manage diary
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Can identify risk issues
  • Ability to work with clients and customers
  • Capable of negotiating on behalf of clients
  • Ability to review and assess medical records, depositions and other documents
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Understands all applicable ethical duties
  • Ability to conduct research
  • Understands the insurance business
