What You Will Do

Our Transportation Business Unit is currently seeking a Transportation Project Manager to provide roadway design oversight and serve as a task leader in our Baltimore, MD office.

The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 10 -16 years of progressive design and task management experience in roadway/traffic engineering design and project engineering experience for highway, interchange, and urban roadway design services to public clients. Experience should consist of overseeing the development of roadway design plan production, including the development of horizontal and vertical geometry, preparation of plan and profile sheets, typical sections, roadway cross sections, maintenance of traffic plans, coordinating with other disciplines and subconsultants. The candidate should also possess good technical, leadership, managerial, and communication skills. The candidate should have existing client relationships and possess ability to make decisions regarding project development. Additionally, they should be able to motivate junior design staff, working well in a team environment. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day management and execution of assigned projects, lead and support for business development opportunities and financial management of projects.


  • Generate the scope, schedule and budget parameters for roadway design projects
  • Manage the execution of projects within the scope, schedule and budget.
  • Manage design staff including mentoring and training
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams with technical responsibilities in the areas of traffic signal design and operations; signing and striping plan preparation; and construction traffic control planning
  • Identify and resolve issues related to the performance of the project, including the generation of supplemental scope, schedule and budget requests
  • Develop and implement QA/ QC plans for projects.
  • Manage sub consultants performance
  • Supervise and train design engineers and technicians who are direct reports to the Supervisor
  • Perform Annual Performance Reviews and participate in compensation analysis for the direct reports to this Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate must possess broad knowledge and experience in transportation/design and strong technical skills in highway design for MDOT or similar projects. Some requiredqualifications are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Registered Maryland Professional Engineer (PE) highly desired
  • 10+ years of transportation industry experience with significant concentration in Highway/Roadway design
  • Prior experience as a task lead on Maryland SHA projects highly desired
  • Design skills should include all aspects of major highway (new curb and gutter section) and minor highway projects (resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation and widening projects)
  • Design experience should include familiarity with roadway, drainage and traffic elements, with the ability to assist in the development of construction documents
  • Local candidates preferred
  • Experience working with MDSHA, federal and local governments is required
  • Knowledge of and experience using MicroStation, InRoads and/or GeoPak, ProjectWise and Microsoft Office is required
  • Knowledge of and experience using AutoCADCivil 3D is highly desired
