  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer, must obtain professional registration in applicable state location within six months of hire
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred
  • Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) certification desirable
  • 10 – 20 years of relevant experience, along with at least four years of project management experience
  • A high level of technical experience required in the following areas: traffic safety; intersection and corridor capacity analyses; traffic impact analyses and knowledge of FHWA, state, and local standards and practices
  • A high level of technical experience desired in the following areas: pedestrian and bicycle operations and safety; transportation planning; corridor planning; complete streets; parking studies; traffic signal systems or roundabouts
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • A high level of prior experience and skill in the areas of report writing and public involvement required
  • Municipal urban experience is preferred
  • Good standing with state DOT staff
  • Experience in successfully marketing and winning projects from a wide mix of clients including state DOT’s, counties/municipalities, and private clients
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required


The purpose of this position is to further develop the traffic engineering service area at one of the locales listed above, and firm wide. Currently, Ayres Associates’ traffic engineers are primarily located in the Waukesha, Wisconsin office.  The company goal is to develop traffic engineering services in new geographic locations throughout Wisconsin and the United States.  The primary responsibility of this position will be to develop a client base and workload, within their geographic area, to expand traffic engineering services and, as new staff are added, to advance their career development.  Ayres Associates promotes work sharing between offices to fulfill the workload needs of all staff.  Qualified candidates are expected to be able to market clients, generate new workload to support themselves and to assist in expanding staffing levels.  The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing or reviewing technical documents for submittal to clients as well as presenting engineering analyses and recommendations to clients and the public.  Prepares contracts, invoices and other project management related items.
