Provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to consumers.
REQUIREMENT: The staff in this position must apply for privileges in accordance with the guidelines established in the Competency Assessment Plan. Approval of privileges is a condition of continued employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Triage and assess assigned consumers of the team.
-Treat consumers with respect.
-Utilize physical assessment skills to determine related interventions.
-Formulate diagnosis based on initial assessment.
Provide outpatient psychiatric treatment to assigned consumers.
-Treat consumers with respect.
-Develop an individualized consumer plan of care.
-Understand legal responsibilities and accountabilities.
-Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.
-Function within the limits of Center policies and procedures.
-Adhere to written clinical procedures and standards.
-Make and act on decisions independently to resolve actual/potential consumer problems.
Implement the consumer plan of care.
-Actively involve the consumer and/or family in the development of the plan of care.
-Plan consumer care with other members of the team.
-Evaluate the consumer's response to the plan of care and update the plan based on consumer's response.
-Instruct consumers and families concerning the disease process, plan of treatment and rehabilitation course, using available teaching materials when appropriate.
-Question any aspect of the consumer's treatment regimen which endangers the level of wellness.
-Communicate questionable aspects of consumer care to appropriate persons.
Prescribe and administer medications as per written department standards.
-Implement appropriately prescribed medical regimen.
-Educate consumers on the side effects and through discussions determine the effectiveness.
Maintain cooperative relationships with consumers, staff and outside agencies.
-Serve as a contact person for community health care providers.
-Communicate with various local agencies and other departments or teams at The Center.
-Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.
-Deal with team members regarding problems in a constructive manner.
-Communicate pertinent information regarding consumers to after hours staff.
Collaborate with other staff and team members in providing care to consumers.
-Coordinate consumer care activities with clinical staff.
-Provide consultation to staff and supervisors regarding community based system of care.
-Serve as a clinical resource person to staff.
-Adjust to meet changes in team scheduling.
Perform duties in accordance with departmental goals, objectives and standards.
-Provide information for clinical treatment decisions.
-Develop goals, objectives and operational plans.
-Analyze the delivery of service and recommend corrective action.
-Identify program educational/training needs.
-Perform select maintenance activities: inventory control and/or stock medication; special equipment checks.
Serve in rotation as back-up psychiatrist nights, holidays and weekends on emergency psychiatric service.
-Respond to emergencies as they occur in a timely manner.
Serve as psychiatrist to consumers hospitalized at Butler Hospital and other hospitals under the auspices of The Center.
-Provide care as required by the treatment plan.
Perform recordkeeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements.
-Complete admission intake assessment within 3 visits, CT only.
-Complete daily activity logs.
-Complete initial assessment forms.
-Complete progress notes with appropriate format.
-Develop and implement a plan of care with ongoing consumer input.
-Complete a clear, specific, behaviorally oriented treatment plan as required with consumer signature.
-Complete insurance documentation as required.
-Complete required reports and evaluations.
Maintain active involvement in professional and lay mental health organizations within the community.
Collaborate with other providers, agencies and individuals in the consumers' network of care.
-Provide consultation to community agencies.
Attend trainings and conferences
-Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended
-Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings required
-Serve on appropriate Center Committees.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Certification or Board eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Qualified for medical licensure in the State of Rhode Island. Relevant clinical experience, preferably in a multi-disciplinary setting.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective presentations on complex topics to staff, top management, and/or public groups.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certification or Board eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
