The promotion of gender equality and women’s voice is a core part of how CARE works everywhere and it applies across all our programme areas. In our experience, strengthening gender inequality and women’s voice requires transformative change. This means addressing the structural causes as well as the symptoms of gender inequality, with the aim of achieving lasting change in the power and choices women and girls have over their own lives, rather than just a temporary increase in opportunities. CARE’s Tipping Point project takes a transformative approach to addressing child marriage through innovation, insight, and influence. The project focuses on identifying the root causes of child early and forced marriage (CEFM) and facilitates innovative strategies to create alternative paths for adolescent girls in Nepal and Bangladesh. Grounded by this work, the project in Phase 3 (July 2020 - December 2023) also seeks to influence the way policymakers, donors, researchers, and civil society approach the issue of CEFM, specifically to steer the global discourse beyond short-term solutions.
The Project Director (PD) leads the Tipping Point project, serving as a key member of CARE USA's Gender Justice Team in the Program, Strategies, and Impact Division. The PD oversees the project to ensure technical excellence, robust learning, and uptake of evidence-based and transformative interventions. In particular, The PD provides the necessary strategic direction and practical guidance to achieve the project's goals for evidence generation and ongoing influencing of the broader CEFM discourse within and outside of CARE and uptake and institutionalization of effective approaches in Phase 3.
I In this role, the PD will work with the Gender Justice team's Gender Program Director and Senior Director, manage a team of three technical and operational specialists, and coordinate with CARE country office staff, local partners, and other key internal and external stakeholders to ensure this multi-country program is able to effectively generate and share knowledge in ways that influence broader change to promote the rights of adolescent girls and address the root causes of CEFM. S/he will ensure that all project interventions are of high quality and foster evidence generation and learning across CARE USA and CARE globally. S/he ensures that the project contributes to CARE's broader goals to advance gender equality and women's voice. Specifically, the PD will lead strategy development, provide strong technical oversight and global thought leadership, implement an advocacy and influencing agenda in conjunction with internal and external allies, and oversee program operations.
