he Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Territorial Senior Accountant for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Performs general cost and fund accounting activities primarily involving the general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations, analysis, and schedules, and research activities for operational and reserve accounts at Territorial Headquarters; ensures accounting activities are performed in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established policies and procedures, as well as, local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Works in conjunction with the THQ Chief Accountant (supervisor) and Accounting Operations Manager (peer) to provide an advance level of support for THQ Accounting operations to ensure that accounting activity is executed timely, accurately, and completely.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic and GAAP accounting and reporting. Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, finance, and bookkeeping. Knowledge and experience in the preparation of complicated consolidated financial statements. Knowledge of accepted practices and techniques for preparing complex spreadsheets, financial statements and reports. Knowledge of data management and monitoring of financial software. Ability to perform all tasks in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to meet and achieve set goals and prioritize and plan work activities in a productive manner. Ability to prepare accurate and complete spreadsheets, balance sheets, trial balances, income statements, financial statements, and special financial reports. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information associated with the job. Ability to operate and utilize computer systems, including Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) to generate and record financial data. Ability to research, analyze, and provide recommendations for a substantial volume of data. Ability to manage multiple projects and processes. Advanced skill in MS Excel for preparing and maintaining both routine and complex spreadsheets Ability to generate customized reports utilizing the query and personal computer support functions of Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) to extract accounting information. Ability to perform routine and complex mathematical calculations. Ability to operate and use computer systems. Skill in analysis for review of budget vs. actual variance and resolution of the same Working knowledge of fund accounting processes Ability to perform standard activities of ledger maintenance (e.g. ledger account coding/ reconciliations, corrections, financial reporting, revenue recognition, voucher/ invoice handling, full cycle month-end close, journal entry preparation/ post, payment applications, manual/ automated billing) Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or a related field required AND A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible accounting experience preferably with one year in the assigned specialty area.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Constant amount of physical effort required associated with hand movement, holding, finger dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, vision, hearing, talking and sitting at least 90% of the work time; rare to occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting to 30 lbs., pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching at least 30% of the work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, chemicals, extreme temperatures, or hazardous conditions.
