The Epigenetics and Stem Cell Biology Laboratory (ESCBL) within the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is recruiting a tenure-track Investigator in the areas of transcription, epigenetics, or chromatin biology. Scientists within the ESCBLinvestigate the fundamental mechanisms by which epigenetics influences chromatin architecture, transcription, and gene expression. These investigations make use of normal, cancer and embryonic stem cells to provide insights into biological processes and to understand how environmental influences on epigenetic regulation may result in consequences to human health. The NIEHS is located in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), a world renowned academic research center in North Carolina and an area well known for its high quality of life. The successful candidate is expected to lead an innovative, independent research program exploring epigenetics, chromatin architecture or transcription that enhances our understanding the effects of the environment on human health. Investigators in the NIH intramural program  have no formal teaching duties and minimal administrative responsibilities. They are funded internally with the potential for generous long-term continuous support. In exchange they are expected to engage directly in the conduct of high impact research with students, postdoctoral fellows and support staff, and to collaborate with their colleagues to solve important scientific problems related to the Institute's mission. Excellent start-up funds, salary, and benefits packages will be provided to the selected applicant, who will also have access to state-of-the-art research core facilities.

Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D. and/or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in their field and an outstanding publication record. The emphasis will be on identifying an exceptional scientist with an innovative and productive research program. Applications from women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged. The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with experience and accomplishments with full Federal benefits, including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
