Job Description and Responsibilities


We are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to join our Calgary Technical Services team. In this role, you will act as a technical resource to our sales and tubular products group management team. The successful candidate will be involved the documentation of technical specifications, product development, project management for capability development, sales process, and customer support as well as serving as an industry liaison with external stakeholders. This position reports to the Manager, Technical Sales Engineering.

  • Provide technical support to our sales account managers during the order to invoice process
  • Manage projects for capability development aimed at aligning with customer-driven requirements and expectations
  • Review customer technical specifications concerning line pipe and casing/tubing and provide assessment of capability during the inquiry process using written feedback in the workflow system
  • Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) for adherence to customer requirements
  • Oversee the timely completion of technical issues arising from large customer development projects in line pipe or casing/tubing including: technical issues from pre-production meetings, following quality plan development activities, development of technical presentation materials and follow-up reporting of pre-production action items and tracking to completion
  • Work with research and development on the requirements for prototype testing programs as they may apply to customer projects
  • Maintain a capability database for tracking production capabilities to aid sales personnel in the order-acceptance process
  • Represent EVRAZ at industry technical meetings including API, CSA, ASTM, etc. and periodically report on the state of key initiatives, participate where appropriate in "working-groups" that involve specification revision or the development of new specifications and offer guidance to Tubular Products Group (TPG) management on the future direction of the industry/customer base with respect to technical requirements

Job Requirements


  • Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering degree required
  • 5 years working experience in a manufacturing-related business, including working with customers on technical issues, experience working in mill quality assurance teams or in product development, a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office tools such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience giving presentations to management regarding project timelines results and next steps
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing technology, manufacturing for oil and gas industry a plus
  • Familiar with development and use of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) a plus
  • Familiar with well design and construction
  • Knowledge of line pipe installation and construction methods
  • Able to work independently and effectively in interactions with customers
  • Experience writing technical specifications and technical reports summarizing key findings and next steps
  • Demonstrated ability to work with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks.
