About the Role

Simply put, the Autonomy Capabilities team specializes in rapidly developing, prototyping, and landing large new autonomy features that allow our self-driving vehicles to do things they couldn't do yesterday -- e.g., autonomously navigating construction zones. Our team focuses on handling the long-tail, unstructured driving scenarios, which must be addressed for driver-less city operations. With this role, we are looking for someone who can coordinate between our backend, platform and product teams. This individual will serve as the voice of autonomy in helping define the roadmap for a new remote assistance program to support driver-less operations in challenging long-tail scenarios. E.g., in what situations can humans provide useful, high-level feedback given latency and (human) decision making time? What happens if we lose connectivity? What key scenarios should our remote autonomy assistance program target for MVP? The ideal candidate will develop a team to address these challenges and more in building prototypes and landing new MVP remote autonomy assistance capabilities.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop a vision and roadmap for landing new on-board remote autonomy assistance capabilities
  • Provide high-level design and autonomy implementation plans
  • Coordinate the development of new remote assist capabilities with product, platform, backend engineering, etc
  • Lead autonomy engineers in on-board implementations, track testing, and validation

What You'll Need:

  • Experience working in some area robotics, motion planning, self-driving, or related field
  • Knowledgeable of autonomy architectures and high-level design
  • Good programming with emphasis on high-level architecture and design skills (we use Python and C++)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-disciplinary technical groups
  • (Bonus) 4+ years experience working on autonomy, self-driving, robotics, or related fields
  • (Bonus) Graduate program in a related area
  • (Bonus) Experience writing high-quality software in industry or on large collaborative projects
  • (Bonus) Experience applying research techniques to large-scale engineering challenges
