At BCBSMA, we have a unique opportunity for an experienced and talented Hadoop Data Architect with demonstrated experience working with both business and technical teams as a technical delivery/implementation lead. This architect will be responsible for understanding all healthcare mainframe data migration system requirements; identifying any core capabilities or tools needed to support these requirements in our on-premise data lake and driving teams to successful delivery, considering all aspects of implementation from requirements through release planning, design, development, testing, and production support planning and implementation.

This person will be responsible for initiating architecture brainstorming sessions with Hadoop Platform architects and finalizing approaches. Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, and proven ability to influence and lead cross functional teams are required. Attend daily scrum sessions, sprint planning and sprint demos. Work with business partners to finalize project release plans; estimate work efforts for projects and work with business project managers and technical leads. Contribute to sprint planning by prioritizing highest priorities and understanding what capabilities need to be delivered in time to align with project delivery dates. This person will partner closely with scrum masters, Platform and DevOps leaders and business and vendor partners, while reporting directly to the Program POD leader. This person must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, good presentation skills, and be adept at understanding business requirements and translating to technical requirements. The Technical Consultant will work in partnership with Scrum Masters, Technical leaders, Implementation Leaders, Business Leaders, and other POD leaders to successfully plan, execute and deliver to the various domain's business requirements and deliverables.

  • Lead technical analysis and recommendations (e.g. evaluate new project system requirements and how best to architect delivery to meet requirements)
  • Lead efforts to automate code migration from lower to higher environments
  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of corporate portfolio projects and data to the on-premise data lake.
  • Coorrdinate and drive all migration and implementation planning activities related to successful delivery of projects to production.
  • Produce (contribute to and oversee others) high quality documentation (e.g. Architecture Specifications, System Requirements, Roadmaps, White Papers) to accurately capture and communicate business drivers, technical requirements, system design, and future plans and provide thought leadership at the enterprise level).
  • Align the technology solutions to adhere to data governance and data security standards.
  • Work with stakeholders within and across Business Unit teams to collaborate, enable, and drive decision making.
  • Design and develop standards, SOPs and Runbooks for normal operations
  • Provide and create the enterprise data models for claims, enrollment and provider within the data lake
  • Partner with and support the Engineering team to drive and execute results in a timely manner
  • Provide data architectural subject matter expertise to the various development teams and partner pods within the data lake, including communicating architectural decisions.
  • Identify core common data shared across the enterprise and participate in enterprise wide efforts to reach common understanding of those data and common data models.
  • Conduct studies of new technologies to provide more efficient and cost effective solutions Define and develop documentation of architectural designs, standards and processes that could affect applications under development or in production or state of data or business architecture.
  • Create performance metrics and traceability maps to determine the effectiveness of architecture solutions and facilitate governance.
  • Keep abreast of relevant architecture best practices.
  • Confer with business units and application development staff to understand both the business and technical requirements and to define architectural constraints.
  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Technology or related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years as lead Solution Architect with 3-5 years minimum on Hadoop/Big Data environments
  • 3-5 years as technical implementation/delivery leader with proven ability to drive delivery of technical and business requirements
  • 10-15 years of technology, in HealthCare Data with adequate functional and leadership experience.
  • Ability to translate detailed business requirements into optimal database and ETL tasks.
  • Ability to understand Hadoop infrastructure and write queries to support data analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in Agile environments, using Agile tools like JIRA, Confluence
  • Demonstrated experience with data ingestion and transformations, publishing in Hadoop.
  • Demonstrated experience with healthcare data (i.e. claims, member, group, finance, provider)
  • Development Experience with SQL, HIVE, Spark, Parquet, Java, HDFS, HBASE
  • Expert with SQL language
  • Experience with a broad range of application architectures, languages, and payments technologies a plus
  • Experience with Jenkins, GIT or other CI tools and knowledge of technologies like containers and Microservices
  • Technical Delivery Experience:
  • Self-learner and networking skills that are required to be successful in this role given the rapid evolution of the New Platforms and Tools.
  • Experience working in Project and product management methodologies
  • Experience or a good understanding and willingness to working in DevSecOps and Agile Scrum based Software Development.
  • Experience with configuration management and continuous deployment
  • Good understanding of distributed systems
  • Experience with Lean, Agile and iterative delivery frameworks, metrics and methodologies.
