Job DescriptionAs a Technical Editor, you will make key contributions to the Documentation Enterprise team in support of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). You will perform a variety of tasks related to producing and editing technical documents and technical procedure manuals such as: Strategic Systems Program Instructions (SSPINSTs), Weapon System Maintenance documents, Ordnance Pamphlets, Ordnance Documents, Standard Maintenance Procedures, and related documentation to include but not limited to, governing documents, correspondence, document technical specifications and work instruction.
Responsibilities - what you will be doing:
- Work closely with Subject Matter Experts, Technologists, and other Technical Editors to support the creation of technical data
- Responsible for accurately editing both format and structure for Technical Manuals for the DoN
- Perform data quality checks and maintain data integrity
- Coordinating production and distribution schedules, timely distribution of replacement documents, conduct quality checks, and attend customer meetings at the BAE offices or the Washington Navy Yard
- Able to decipher redlines (changes) on technical procedures and drawings made by contractors or other team members
- Communicate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of technical data
- Developing team internal processes and procedures
- Other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Education- English, Journalism, Communications, or Computer Science degree
- Active Secret clearance
- Active CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for formatting inconsistencies
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as outstanding strong proofreading and formatting skills
- Ability to edit professional documents for content, flow, and integrity in conformance with best practices
- Has the ability to perform documentation coordination and production activities with specific attention to detail and accuracy
- Has strong interpersonal skills: able to coordinate with all staff levels and across all department to produce timely, high quality documentation
- Has flexibility in dealing with changing priorities
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds

Preferred Skills and Education- Graphics Editing Skills
- Technical writing/editing, including grammar skills
- Knowledgeable or has Continue Process Improvement Experience
- Has basic hardware configuration knowledge
- Ability to apply knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, policies, and procedures is a plus
- Familiar with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, portion markings, and creation)
- Experience in documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Microsoft, Arbortext, Vulcan, Quicksilver etc.)
- Familiar with producing structured electronic manuals in SGML, XML and S1000D in compliance per Navy approved DTDs
