Bloomberg runs on data, and in Data we're responsible for acquiring and providing it to our clients. We collect, model, analyze, and publish data which is the backbone of the Bloomberg Terminal. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes- all while delivering advanced insights to our clients. We're responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately!

Our Team:

The Data Inventories and Integration team acts as the bridge between modeling and the data at Bloomberg. This work includes managing the semantic and field inventories, working with subject matter experts to help onboard them to the Metadata tech stack, and much more! The team composition features technical specialists and data engineers to drive these initiatives.

What's the role?

Data Team Leaders are the frontline managers and play a critical role in developing and leading individuals with diverse experience and expertise spanning across several functions and subject matter areas.

As a Team Leader of the Data Inventories and Integration team, you will be pivotal in the development of our Metadata products at Bloomberg. The day-to-day will vary, some days you'll advise engineers on the development of infrastructure and platforms. Other days, you'll meet with Data teams to promote Metadata best practices. Your work will touch a multitude of domains across different groups.

*This role is open in either our Princeton, NJ or NYC Office!

We'll trust you to:
  • Invest in and develop team members' abilities to establish a deep domain expertise in their respective area of specialization, while promoting a culture of cross team collaboration
  • Collaborate with strategic partners on large-scale programs (technical and operational) with enterprise-wide influence through effective data governance, cross-team organization, risk management, and stakeholder engagement
  • Balance operational stability and adoption of new technologies during implementation, while challenging stakeholders' past assumptions and promote new ways of thinking
  • Establish close partnerships with Engineering and Product counterparts on priorities and implementation roadmaps
  • Participate in technical discussions and provide insights on design, code reviews, and other relevant areas as required by the team
  • Promote multi-dimensional (e.g. validity, completeness and consistency) data quality initiatives within the inventories and identify resolution strategies
You'll need to have:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, Engineering or a related field
  • 3+ years of formal people leadership experience, or strong informal leadership
  • 1+ years of Python (or equivalent) programming and experience working with databases (SQL, NoSQL, graph, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Outstanding stakeholder management skills, able to thrive in a fast-changing environment to establish strong credibility with counterparts across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Exposure to metadata systems, data modeling, semantic technologies, linked data and/or knowledge graphs
We'd love to see:
  • Understanding of Data Governance and Data Management, supported by industry certifications (e.g. DAMA CDMP, DCAM, etc.)
  • Exposure to the Bloomberg Terminal and/or Enterprise Data products
  • Up-to-date knowledge of financial markets, and how Bloomberg products deliver value to our users
  • Experience with the Data tech stack (e.g. DTP, DFR, BBDS, etc.)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or other relevant certifications are desirable
