Position Scope:

This position will supervisor electrical technicians while executing small scale engineering and maintenance projects. The dual role is responsible for providing engineering level support to analyze the theoretical operation of equipment, development equipment and engineering specifications and equipment repair and recovery plans. As a leader, this position will supervise and assist electrical technicians in diagnosing equipment failure and repairs of critical and complex electrical systems. Develop and reviews the electrical safety plans, creates safe work zones, develops high risk JSAs and conduct pre-job safety reviews. Develop solutions to correct chronic reliability issues that require detail troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field from an accredited college/university.
  • Five (5) years of recent verifiable experience.
  • Knowledgeable of the maintenance and operation of low, med, and high voltage industrial electrical distribution systems. Including; relaying operations and coordination, circuit breaker operation and controls, PTs, CTs, disconnects, transformers, misc. switchgear, equipment switching procedures, electrical safe work practices and basic power engineering.

Preferred Skills:


  • Knowledge and use of Industry Standards such as IEEE, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and EPRI.
  • Experience with Arc Flash Analysis, ETAP, SKM and distribution system load studies.
  • Experience analyzing soft starters, VFDs, DC controls and motors.
  • Instrumentation and Controls.
  • PLC (Allen Bradley, RxLogic), Boolean logic, controllers, hart smart instrumentation, instrument calibration and distributed control systems.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Complex Electrical Switching and Coordination –

This involves complex switching in which switching orders need to be developed and reviewed with multiple parties involved with the electrical work, evaluate LOTO isolation and the placing of electrical grounds and supervise electrical workers during switching. This position will differentiate electrical distribution systems (345kV, 138kV, 34.5kV, 6.9kV and 4160V) and understand how to analyze one-line power distribution drawings, interpret 3-line diagrams, familiarity with protective relaying and relay coordination practices. Coordinate switchyard maintenance activities with the IPL Substation Power Distribution group.

  • Construction Manager (CA Administrator) –

When required this position will develop construction scopes and supervise contractors in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment.


  • NERC Battery PRC-005-2 Standard –

Monitor the quarterly, yearly testing, documentation and NERC audits compliance for the facility. Complete the testing, develop the reports, and follow through on maintenance and repairs.


  • Arc Flash Compliance and Electrical Safety –

Familiar and trained in NFPA 70E electrical standards. Serve as an electrical live work permit authority. Assist with developing the electrical training programs and serve as the subject matter expert on medium and high voltage electrical safety standards. Conduct in-house training as needed to maintain compliance.
