Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Inc. is seeking a Tax Project Manager to join the Tax Accounting and Forecasting team located in Juno Beach, Florida. NextEra is a fast paced, dynamic and complex environment. NextEra Energy Resources calculates its provision for income taxes in accordance with ASC740 and SOX-404 on a monthly basis and as a publicly traded company, reports its financial results quarterly (Form 10-Q) and annually (Form 10-K). As part of the company’s monthly accounting close cycle, this professional will assist the tax accounting team in the preparation of the provision for income taxes by utilizing OTP provision software. As part of the quarterly reporting process, this professional may also compile and review tax related financial information and disclosures to be included in the applicable SEC filings. This position will assist with all aspects of accounting for income taxes (ASC740), including but not limited to:


• Utilizes OTP provision software to prepare the monthly provision for income taxes in accordance with ASC740 and SOX-404 requirements
• Compares actual results to forecasted results then identifies and researches material variances
• Analyzes and quantifies the primary drivers of the company’s effective tax rate
• Assists in preparing tax schedules and dashboards for management reporting
• Identify and implement improvements to existing processes
• Researches various topics related to ASC740
• Maintains tax basis balance sheets
• Collaborates with team members on special projects or management requests
• Mentors and trains less-experienced tax accountants
• Partner with compliance team to minimize return to provision adjustments
• Effective communication with forecasting and compliance teams to ensure efficient process from forecasting to return filing

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages tax related projects, including system maintenance and/or development
  • Prepares and/or reviews tax returns and corresponding tax work papers and files
  • Researches law, regulations, administrative rulings and court cases and presents proposals to lawfully minimize tax liability
  • Researches and drafts responses to inquiries from government agencies regarding tax filings, compliance, and other claims
  • Provides and/or verifies tax assumptions and tax results in project models
  • Leads project teams to improve quality, efficiency, predictability and/or transparency
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 7+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's - Accounting / Finance
  • LLM - Master of Laws
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
