Job Description:

The Global Tax Department of AB is in search of a State & Local Tax Manager to join their U.S. Finance organization. The candidate will report to the SVP/Global Tax Director and will work with the corporate tax team in the company's tax planning and compliance activities including apportionment, market based sourcing, tax provision for the publicly traded partnership and supporting the annual tax return processes. The position will work with other members of Finance, General Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Treasury and Legal teams. The candidate will play an integral role in assisting the team achieve strategic objectives, drive process improvements, support the international tax team with the goal of ensuring that the firm's global tax requirements are timely delivered.


  • Key point of contact and support for the Firm's Multi-State corporate tax matters
  • Review State and Local income tax return filings
  • Manage the outsourcing of indirect non-income tax filings. This includes gathering and analyzing raw data
  • Manage the outsourcing of business licenses and annual report filings
  • Prepare the state apportionment / allocation data
  • Liaise with tax authorities and provide tax audit support for the Firm
  • Work with global provision team to prepare State / Local provision on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Manage external tax authorities' requests, audits, and nexus inquiries
  • Provide internal Multi-State tax advisory services, research and support on business revenue and operations
  • Closely monitor and timely implement changes to State & Local tax law changes
  • Work with legal on documenting the intercompany state company level transactions
  • Work with Treasury on tax payment planning and execution
  • Tax accounting journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Share and teach state and local tax knowledge with Global Tax Director, tax colleagues, and internal partners
  • Network with internal partners to learn about the company and share tax information
  • Additional duties include supporting international tax colleagues


Education and Experience:

  • 4 to 6 years' progressive experience in a State and Local / Corporate Tax Department
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
  • Big Four experience desired
  • CPA required
  • MS in Taxation a plus

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A self starter with ability to work independently
  • Proficient in Multi-State Compliance & Tax Reporting , VAT experience a plus
  • Prior experience working on Multi-state matters and complex revenue sourcing
  • Outstanding organization skills, ability to effectively prioritize, and direct others
  • Knowledge of tax accounting and federal tax return compliance
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, collaborative by nature
  • Exceptional at developing internal client relationships
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Collaborative work experience in a team setting
  • Partnership state tax experience a plus.
