Reporting to the VP, Tax, the Tax Director will work cross-functionally on strategies supporting our goal to build a high-performing tax function that is regularly sought after as a trusted business partner. Kemper values cross-functional leadership. Accordingly, in working to drive tax efficiency the Tax Director will lead Kemper's tax compliance area, be a primary point of contact to the organization regarding tax matters and work on strategic projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Managing direct and indirect tax compliance responsibilities
  • Working with internal and external resources to innovatively improve how we meet compliance deliverables through technology and process improvements
  • Developing and managing relevant KPIs
  • Being a functional contact supporting business leaders on tax and tax-related matters
  • Working interactively with other tax team members to more seamlessly integrate tax compliance with tax reporting and tax planning activities
  • Participating in business integration activities
  • Supporting various business initiatives

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of public accounting and/or in-house corporate tax department experience (or equivalent)
  • Supervisory experience 4+ years • Insurance tax experience 4+ years
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment, influencing strategy and achieving goals by working with people across the organization
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills, with an ability to address complex tax matters in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Proven process-improvement track record Preferred
  • Advanced law degree or Master's degree in Tax, Accounting, or related field
  • Licensed CPA
  • Experience with life/nonlife groups
