Our Human Services Unit is looking to hire Researchers who have evaluation and technical assistance experience in the area of TANF. Our Researchers work closely with clients, often state and local government agencies, to assess program operations (e.g., conducting implementation analyses in the field to identify technical assistance needs), identify and recommend evidence-based solutions to problems, and deliver technical assistance to program administrators and staff on program change and evaluation.
You would join our staff of research professionals, which includes doctoral-level researchers in the fields of sociology, public policy, economics, and other social sciences, as well as master's-level analysts, and bachelor’s-level research assistants/programmers. As a Researcher, you will participate in key technical assistance, evaluation, and data analysis project activities including:
Writing a range of products, including (1) synthesis memoranda, briefs, or reports summarizing key findings, potential recommendations for improvement, and practice-focused lessons learned from promising sites; (2) practitioner-focused documents, including implementation guidance, training curriculum, and strategic planning tools; (3) performance management reports; and (4) technical assistance briefs (e.g., summary of best practices, innovative case study sites)
Analyzing state and local administrative or survey data and providing insights into issues of policy and practice
Designing and facilitating onsite strategic planning sessions, trainings, and other meetings with federal, state, and local social service agencies
Organizing and coordinating a range of individual and group technical assistance activities, including recruiting subject matter experts and arranging peer-to-peer consultations, to foster and support program innovation
Cultivating and promoting learning collaboratives within and across states and localities providing onsite and remote technical assistance to site innovation teams
Creating data collection tools, conducting data collection activities (e.g., implementation site visits, focus groups, direct service observations, and surveys), and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data for initial and ongoing assessment of technical assistance needs, road test and refine interventions, and document what works and for whom
Doctorate degree in social work, organizational behavior, public policy, behavioral economics, organizational psychology, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Three or more years work experience in TANF with a human services program, state or federal government, policy research organization, or foundation
Experience sharing research findings and working with state/local agencies to translate findings to inform policy/practice
Skilled in using qualitative and/or quantitative research methods (e.g., implementation site visits, focus groups, direct service observations, and surveys), and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
Experience in designing and facilitating strategic planning processes that motivate and inspire meeting participants; conducting engaging and content rich onsite and virtual trainings; and engage groups in meaningful dialogue. Training and experience in using adult learning theory or human centered design techniques is strongly desired.
Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with clients and other external stakeholders
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing a range of products for diverse audiences
