As a Global Quality (GQ) System Quality and Reliability Assurance (SQRA) Returned Material Authorization (RMA) Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer at Micron Technology, you will be responsible for performing system level failure analysis of customer returned products. You will identify the failure mode and summarize your analysis at the electrical and physical level. You will work with various engineering groups to identify and verify root causes and corrective actions. You will provide status updates and written FA diagnostic reports to internal stakeholders. You will be required to maintain technical knowledge of product capabilities and characteristics. You will serve as a technical resource for customer facing engineers, and will provide training and consultation when necessary. You may be required to perform additional testing, data collection and receiving processes as needed based on availability of site resources.

Responsibilities and Tasks Perform FA of Customer Returns 

  • Understand customer failure mode and observed fail conditions

 

  • Ask additional questions to provide best opportunity for successful analysis

 

  • Perform initial FA, including debug data capture and analysis

 

  • Replicate customer test environment

 

  • Perform Automated Test Equipment (ATE) analysis and interpret results

 

  • Perform detailed fault isolation once failure has been confirmed

 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional resources and support groups to identify root cause and corrective action

 

  • Summarize findings and submit for Component / Firmware / Module FA

 Provide FA Diagnostic Reports to Internal Customers 

  • Summarize analysis at electrical and physical level

 

  • Identify potential risks to external customers

 

  • Communicate with respective Business Unit(s) (BU) on potential impact to customers

 

  • Provide formal FA reports with findings

 

  • Provide regular updates through interim reports and conference calls

 Manage Communication of FA Results to Internal Teams 

  • Provide additional information to enable identification of root cause/corrective action

 

  • Ask detailed and follow up questions as necessary to provide an adequate customer response

 

  • Analyze data from various sources for trends and variations

 

  • Drive overall process and product quality improvement

 

  • Record FA results and usage statistics in internal tracking system

 

  • Create and distribute FA status reports

 Maintain Knowledge of Product Drive Capabilities and Characteristics 

  • Stay current on latest process technology

 

  • Reference datasheet specifications for each device

 

  • Maintain operational knowledge on FA diagnostic tools and methodologies

 

  • Comprehend qualification data and potential impact to customer operation

 

  • Stay current on common customer applications

 

  • Partner with customer support team for future customer issues

 Manage Process and Product Quality and Reliability Performance 

  • Monitor process performance metrics

 

  • Analyze data for clarity and accuracy

 

  • Communicate trends and metrics to internal customers

 Serve as Technical Interface for Customer Facing Team Members 

  • Coordinate and perform training on manufacturing, firmware, and FA tools

 

  • Provide FA tools

 

  • Assist in the development of field diagnostic tools

 

  • Serve as initial contact for field failures

 

  • Provide consultation for Quality Assurance (QA) requests

EducationRequired Bachelors Degree

ExperienceRequired 1 year experience in any of the following:

  • 1+ years Failure Analysis, 1+ years Storage Industry, Customer Interface (Desired)

    Qualifications 

  • An understanding of NAND memory operation

 

  • An understanding of computer architecture

 

  • An understanding of firmware operation

 

  • Scripting experience in Python (Desired)

 

  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux and Mac OS

 

  • Ability to analyze problems, diagnose root cause, and apply corrective actions

 

  • Good communication, documentation, leadership, and problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment

 

  • High level of proficiency with both verbal and written English skills (Required)

 

  • An understanding of computer storage operation and interface standards such as SATA, SAS, PCIe, or Fibre Channel. (Preferred)

 

  • Ability and willingness to effectively communicate and interact with team members worldwide
