Job Description:

  • Monitor the creation, quality and delivery of data from all six GOES instruments, along with the derived products, in multiple processing strings and environments (mission critical)
  • Perform failovers and handovers from the primary GOES processing string to the Backup without data lose to National Weather Service or the GOES-R access system (GAS) (mission critical)
  • Restore data to the users during outages (mission critical)
  • Restore processing in the event of failures under the direction or cognizance of the Product Engineer (PE) or other subject matter expert (SME) (mission critical)
  • Troubleshoot anomalies or failures to aid the PE or SME in the resolution (e.g looking at output logs and running processes, running scripts, and analyzing tool outputs)
  • Test and providing engineering input for new tool development
  • Take Product Generation and Product Distribution subsystems down and back up as needed to support operations or events
  • Modify PD configurations (e.g. include or exclude product delivery to an external archive)
  • Test work requests (WR) (similar to PTRS) after each new build deployment
  • Send out Mission Notices to the weather enterprise (learning how to format these correctly is a government training task)
  • Compiling daily logs, system statuses, and delivery reports
  • Present system health and status to team leaders and program managers during the DOST meetings
  • Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) when required
  • Copying data from two-day-store or mission-life-store, or log files for external use by the scientific community and instrument vendors
  • Create WRs to initiate analysis of anomalies or failures
  • Create SRs to resolve Enterprise Management, Hardware or System Administration issues
  • Train the government Product Operators (PO)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 plus years experience or equivalent.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Customer Access Card (CAC)
