Job Summary:

The Systems Engineering Manager oversees a team of systems engineers, which are the primary technical solutions resource for the North-American sales team, responsible for diagnosing and developing integrated packaging solutions for customers across all market verticals.  The Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the following activities: providing thought leadership, working with the area directors to achieve stated goals, driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales discovery process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor, project managing installations, and managing the long-term success of the customer. In additional to leading a team of Systems Engineers, the Systems Engineering Manager will also be responsible for a subset of customers. Specifically, they are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales discovery process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor, project managing installations, and managing the long-term success of the customer. The Systems Engineering Manager will also ensure the company’s advanced products efforts continue to grow by accelerating internal adoption of solutions, making sure systems engineers architect advanced products into all solutions, and meeting or exceeding goals. This position reports directly to the Director of Systems Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work withfinance, marketing and data systems to build transparency and clear metrics
  • Provide thought leadership and a sense of community to the systems engineers
  • Work with the Packsize area directors to help realize stated financial and operational goals
  • Motivate a team of systems engineers to meet or exceed Packsize’s stated committed revenue, installed revenue, lost customer, and actual revenue goals
  • Ensure Packsize becomes a trusted advisor in the minds of its customers by providing complete solutions with both corrugated and non-corrugated products
  • Provide subject-matter-expertise in Packsize hardware, software and engineering solutions
  • Engage at all levels of supply chain, operations and IT functions to drive value-creation through Packsize technology
  • Assist sales by driving technical components of the On Demand Packaging® business case through quantifiable analysis of direct labor, value streams, supply chain processes and packaging needs
  • Develop on-going core product and non-core product business case documentation through quantifiable analysis of direct labor, value streams, supply chain processes and packaging needs
  • Develop detailed engineering solutions incorporating customer process/data flows and layouts
  • Identify product/solution capability gaps and define ways to accommodate customer needs
  • Work directly with Product Management to identify and incorporate related technologies (automation, material handling, packaging) into engineered solutions and proposals
  • Respond to functional and technical requests regarding Packsize products and engineered solutions
  • Develop best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and professionalism of the entire Systems Engineering department
  • Coordinate solution implementation across Packsize and customer teams
  • Provide knowledge and training on products to peers, presales and sales staff in the organization
  • Partner with Product Management, Data Integration, Research and Development teams to improve Packsize products and engineering solutions
  • Work alongside Sales Operations and Field Operations teams to improve systems engineering and project management tools and processes
  • Work to ensure the long-term success of the Packsize customer

  Experience and Education Required:

  • 5 - 7years successful track record in sales engineering, program management, and account management
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, IndustrialEngineering or a related field is required
  • Experience in diagnostic, technical sales or consulting highly preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing, operations, supply chain or business analysis required
  • Experience in fulfillment operations and warehousing technologies highly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement tools required
  • Demonstrated expertise/experience in project management/change management highly required
  • Experience with ERP, MRP or WMS systems required
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and SalesForce CRM preferred
  • High proficiency in MS Office required; Excel expertise required

  Qualifications (including Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Must have proven experience in complex, solution-based sales within related technologies
  • Must be interested in working the intersection of products, technologies and business development
  • Must be self-motivated with a proven track record of meeting targets within positions of increasing responsibility and ownership
  • Must have leadership, executive presence, territory planning, strategic planning and execution ability
  • Must have thorough understanding of complex, diagnostic selling to enterprise accounts
  • Must have the ability to build relationships, establish rapport, trust, and credibility with employees
  • Will be able to coach, develop, mentor, and train direct reports
  • Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, requests for product specifications, and when submitting reports
  • Must be hungry, humble, and smart and produce results

  Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to travel up to 60%. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Must have a safe driving record, in accordance with current Packsize auto policy
