Overview:

Management Science Associates, Inc., (MSA) is a diversified information management company that for over half a century has given market leaders the competitive edge in data management, analytics and technology. We are currently seeking an experienced Linux/Unix Administrator to support MSA's internal and external customer base. The candidate must have knowledge and experience with Linux/Unix platforms and would primarily support for various versions of Red Hat and CentOS Linux. Experience with other Linux/Unix versions such as AIX, HPUX, or Solaris is a plus. Enterprise backup experience is also a plus. The position requires good interpersonal skills, the ability work in diverse environments and requires minimal local travel to sites in the Pittsburgh area.

Responsibilities:

  • Unix/Linux support for MSA external clients and internal business units
  • Analyzes and evaluates systems hardware and software relative to client requirements and site environment
  • Monitors systems configurations including software and hardware and recommend modifications as needed to ensure systems reliability
  • Provides technical support to clients and MSA engineers on Windows, MS Proxy Servers, TCP/IP and/or other system related products
  • Administrate servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux in a production environment
  • Perform OS installs, setup, configuration, security lockdowns and ongoing maintenance of existing infrastructure as well as new servers
  • Perform configuration of disks and file systems
  • Propose/recommend new technologies and implement into the existing environment
  • Perform daily duties related to system health monitoring and system integrity assurance
  • Maintain configuration compliance to avoid risks of system outages or compromised data

Required Skills

  • Four-year degree program in Computer Science or equivalent experience learning information technology concepts, plus knowledge of servers, systems administration and operating systems
  • Minimum of five years' experience with servers, operating systems or programming (Python, Pearl, Schell, C, etc.)
  • Experience with Enterprise Backup solution such as NetBackup or Commvault a plus
  • Experience with IBM AIX a plus
  • Knowledge and use of Ansible also a plus
  • Familiarity with VMWare, Apache, or GNU products a plus
  • Good Customer service attributes including communication skills, documentation details, organization, follow-through, deadline awareness and responsiveness
  • Problem determination and resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others to solve complex system related issues
  • Ability to document, develop, and implement test plans to verify installation, upgrades, or repairs, including back-out plans
  • Must be a team player with good written and oral communication skills
