The Systems Engineer is responsible for the systems and applications in SaaS hosted environments that contain sensitive PHI and PII data. The Systems Engineer is responsible for gathering and documenting technical requirements and then turning those requirements into effective, scalable and best of breed solutions. The Systems Engineer oversees the administration of production and non-production validation environments, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing long-term perspectives by contributing to the technical road-map. The Systems Engineer works effectively with many teams and peers including Engineering, Development, Product Management, Customer Support Groups and Services.

 Key Activities:

  • Assists in the planning and creation of enterprise class, best in breed systems, services and solutions;
  • Creates and maintains documentation as it relates to system builds and configurations, system administration, associated processes, policies, including business continuity and disaster recovery;
  • Evaluates, plans, procures and deploys new technology and platforms as necessary to meet the requirements of business requests and infrastructure roadmaps;
  • Installs, configures, monitors and maintains high performing, highly available and secure infrastructure and systems in a 24/7 SaaS environment located in datacenters and public clouds;
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and complies with HIPAA and other privacy and security practices and all required regulatory controls in accordance with NIST Cyber Security Framework, FIPS, 45 CFR § 160 and 164 as required;
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional groups and working groups;
  • Participates in production change management processes and on call duties;
  • Participates in the training and/or mentoring programs as assigned or required;
  • Resolves and documents incidents and problems effectively and in a timely manner;
  • Responds to the needs and requests of clients and Mediware management and teams in a professional and expedient manner;

 Baseline Competencies:

  • Able to build, configure and administer servers and applications in both bare metal and hypervisor environments
  • Able to configure and administer servers and application presentation services
  • Able to create and review change management cases
  • Able to install, configure and maintain various network, compute and storage platforms;
  • Exhibits excellent general computer skills and proficiency especially PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Project
  • Has a high-level knowledge of datacenters and datacenter technologies and commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in Information Technology with excellent analytical skills

Job Competencies:

  • Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, RedHat Enterprise) experiencepreferred;
  • SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL and MS SQL) experiencepreferred;
  • Scripting (Perl, Python and/or Ruby) experiencepreferred;
  • Hands-on experience of system management, system setup and managing Linux or Solaris based servers as well as configuring them;
  • Knowledge in shell programming and architecture is valued very much in the job market. If you know Buorne or Korn well, you can even score a high-paying salary with minimal experience.
  • Storage technologies like FC, NFS or iSCSI is required, knowledge regarding backup technologies is;
  • Knowledge in testing methodologies like Subversion or Git is definitely a plus, knowledge of version control is also a plus;
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools like Puppet and Chef a plus;
  • Hand-on experience with system and application monitoring tools like SNMP or Nagios or Zabbix;

 Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred majors are Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems/Decision Sciences, Mathematics, Sciences, or other STEM related majors;
  • 5 years or equivalent experience in IT Systems Engineering
  • Able to translate business requests and problem management cases into actionable work efforts
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and can resolve issues within the physical, data layer, network layer, transport layer and presentation layer throughout the datacenter, which includes hardware, software, systems and platforms
