The Platform Content Technologies Operations organization provides centralized services for content loading, storage and retrieval that's key to the success for several Thomson Reuters online products. Being a Systems Engineer as part of our team you will play an integral role in providing day-to-day support services involving change, incident and application management for our critical content platform.

This position will allow you the opportunity to expand your technical skills while networking withprofessionals in Data Center operations, technology development and project management teams.

  • Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation and refinement.
  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews.
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems byidentifying and driving changes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Perform change management functions involving software deployment and server maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate and plan changes with other technology teams involving servers within our environment.
  • Respond and mitigate incidents as they occur within the environment.
  • Contribute details to post incident review process.
  • Communicate and escalate customer impacting issues according to department guidelines.
  • Represent operations in a technical fashion to leadership and development teams.
  • Participate in projects and engagements that evolve the stability, scalability, and supportability of the supported platforms.
  • Partner with development and other operations team to continue evolving our monitoring and operational procedures.
  • Participate with development planning to define and deliver non-functional requirements for supported platform.
  • Update support documentation as environment changes occur.
  • Participate in a monthly on-call rotation.


Minimum qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Working knowledge of supporting and debugging Java based applications.
  • Experience in supporting content workflows in an enterprise distributed environment. (Activiti)
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems in an enterprise environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills. Experience in a DevOps environment
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, agile based environment.
  • Working knowledge of Linux OS and Java applications.
  • Working knowledge with Oracle database technologies and SQL.
  • Familiarity with scripting (Python, JavaScript)
