Position Overview

As a lead-level Systems Architect on the Systems Development Architecture (SDA) Team, you will work alongside a team of skilled architects to help research and set strategic direction for application development standards, technologies, and processes across the Shaw enterprise. Along with the languages, tools, and frameworks used to build applications, the domain includes integration technologies, development infrastructure (source code management, build/deploy automation, automated code quality and testing) and virtualized/containerized hosting platforms.

In addition to technical skills, you will also leverage your soft skills to facilitate discussion and debate with peers and leaders; conduct presentations with management, colleagues, and business partners; and work with outside suppliers and vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Gain and practice subject matter expertise across all areas of applications development

  • Conduct research and experimentation with new development technologies

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams made of development and infrastructure staff to understand current and future needs

  • Maintain balance of an enterprise “big picture” focus that may sometimes conflict with individual developer desires, or even your own

  • Ability to build and maintain strong trusting relationships with peers and business partners, which often includes navigation of cultural, individual, or technical obstacles to change

  • Possess excellent communication skills with business and technical resources within all levels of leadership, to include facilitating meetings and conducting presentations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA / BS Degree or equivalent practical experience

  • 6 years of relevant experience in software development and/or architecture

  • Strong knowledge of software development environments, to include personal computers, servers, virtual machines, and containers, with both Windows and Linux operating systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with multiple development languages and frameworks; relevant examples include but are not limited to Java, C#, HTML/CSS/Javascript, Node.js, Python, JEE, JPA, Angular, Bootstrap, Spring

  • Experience with agile development methodologies and DevOps

  • Experience with systems integration involving web services, microservices, service buses, and messaging, using both custom code and low/no-code packages

  • Familiarity with some or all of the following tools and concepts: DB2, SQL Server, TIBCO BusinessWorks, data virtualization, Git, Jenkins, SonarQube, OpenShift
