Full Job Description

Description

The MADXR (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) is the latest generation of avionics system installed onboard surveillance airplanes and helicopters which allows for real time detection of submarines (hyperlink to product demo). The system has successfully demonstrated performance during test flights and is entering high volume production rate. Our engineering team is faced with the challenge of standardizing the product to enable mass production and prepare the next generation of systems.

As a member of the Hardware Engineering team, the Systems Engineer will contribute to the qualification, delivery, and integration of the MADXR (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) avionics system on customer aircraft platforms. The role focuses on transitioning the product from prototype to highvolume production, improving test sequences, supporting production activities, and ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.

The position is based on site at CAE (8585 Chemin de la CtedeLiesse, SaintLaurent, Quebbec) and requires occasional travel to customer locations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, documenting, and executing system test plans to validate design improvements and contractual requirements

  • Supporting product standardization to enable highvolume manufacturing and preparation of nextgeneration systems

  • Participating in the creation of customer deliverable technical documentation, including system specifications, configuration management records, and test procedures

  • Reviewing contract requirements, assessing compliance, and developing requirements verification matrices

  • Designing, integrating, validating, and documenting improvements to the MADXR system and associated equipment

  • Supporting production by identifying friction points and proposing permanent corrective solutions

  • Contributing to initiatives aimed at improving production test pass rates, product reliability, and mission success

  • Providing hardware expertise during technical exchanges with customers and supporting project managers

  • Performing magnetic surveys at customer sites to support system integration on aircraft and helicopters

  • Supporting project engineering by estimating development scope, costs, and associated risks

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary internal teams (avionics, electronics, mechanical, software, production, planning, procurement) and external suppliers

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or a related field

  • 35 years of professional experience in avionics or electronic systems engineering

  • Experience in integration, validation, and troubleshooting of avionics and/or electronic systems

  • Experience working with aircraft or helicopter platforms and avionics products

  • Ability to design and execute systemlevel test activities

  • Ability to produce clear, customerfacing technical documentation

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, fastevolving environment and manage ambiguity

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences

  • Eligibility to obtain NATO security clearance

  • Ability to meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and, where applicable, ITAR

  • Availability to work on site and travel to customer sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MILSTD810, MILSTD704, MILSTD464, MILSTD461, MILSTD202, and/or DO160

  • Knowledge of C and Python; C# considered an asset

  • Experience developing software interfacing with equipment and/or microcontrollers

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems and flight dynamics

  • Autonomous field experience; Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license considered an asset

  • Interest in and ability to learn the physics of magnetometers and apply this knowledge to product improvement

  • Bilingualism (English and French)
