System Administrator/ Technical Operations Specialist
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems or related discipline plus 2 to 4 years of directly related experience is required. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
Thorough understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems
Networking concepts, architectures, and transport technologies like TCP/IP
Ability to utilize network and distributed modeling & simulation tools such as Wireshark, Redsim, PLEXSYS, and SIMDIS
Knowledge of Distributed Simulation protocols such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) is preferred
Knowledge of Navy C4I tactical systems such as Link 16 and GCCS is preferred
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot distributed simulation problems and provide acceptable solutions or corrections
Experience working with Navy systems and/or commands desirable but not mandatory.
CompTIA Security + and Linux+ certifications are required for the position and special consideration may be given for candidates with these certifications. If candidate does not already possess these certifications, training and certification exam will be provided for the right candidate.
Must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance
The Technical Operations Specialist supports the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) program by configuring the Navy Training Baseline (NTB) and its interfaces to other Navy, Joint, and Coalition Live Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training systems employing distributed modeling and simulation technologies. The NTB contains the Navy¿s core simulation application Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) as well as other common simulation tools and interfaces such as the Joint-BUS (JBUS).
The NCTE engineering staff provides systems engineering solutions for the integration of live, virtual and constructive simulation technologies. These technologies are used to support US Fleet Forces (USFF), Number Fleets, COCOM, and MOC training and certification requirements and consist of synthetic training and mission certification events between pierside ships, virtual trainers and training centers during Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) and other training event types.
The Technical Operations Specialist performs and perfects technical systems administration activities in order to provide a stable and consistent Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) for FST events, NTB release testing environment, and various other integration testing activities.
Must have a thorough understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and be able to use advanced capabilities such as (but not limited to): scripting, network interface configuration, device configuration, domain management, file sharing/mapping, etc.
Installs new NTB software releases, upgrades, and patches
Evaluates and resolves moderately complex software related problems.
Uses systems management software to monitor servers and applications, troubleshooting problems and coordinating with other teams when problems occur.
Coordinates with software developers in order to enhance effectiveness of existing M&S toolset as well as to identify candidate controlling and monitoring processes that can be streamlined and automated by NTB software efforts.
Supports site upgrades, audits, and other evaluations
Develops and maintains technical architecture, configuration, and status documentation.
Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocationrelated to the use of computing resources.
