Practising Law Institute (“PLI”), an innovative leader in legal education programs and services, is searching for a technology professional to fill the role of System Administrator.  This position requires a bachelor’s degree as well as experience providing day-to-day technical support. PLI’s client base includes a large array of prestigious law firms, corporations and government agencies. 


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced system administrator/help desk provider who is interested in expanding their skills in the areas of security and devops.




The System Administrator is responsible for providing desktop and system administration while supporting our projects and day-to-day operations.  Responsibilities involve providing engineering system administrative related solutions, managing servers and services in accordance with standards of projects/operational requirements, contributing to and maintaining system standards, researching and recommending innovative and, where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.




System Administration

  • Apply operating system patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
  • Upgrade administrative tools and utilities as necessary.
  • Configure and add new services as needed.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting tosupport capacity planning.
  • Execute ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Monitor system on a daily basis; verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, review system and application logs.
  • Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up on a daily basis.
  • Administer build servers and various in-house application servers.
  • Keep current with available technology and make upgrade recommendations to Director, Network Operations when appropriate.


  • Maintain security updates.
  • Administer antivirus and various security related servers.
  • Review regular securityreports to identify any possible violations.
  • Monitor collected logs for unusual trends and activities.
  • As a key member of the Incident Response Team, the System Administrator will follow PLI’s security policy and incident response plan if a security breach is suspected or identified.

Service Desk

  • Respond to employee requests for technical support via telephone, email and in-person; provide support and repair to end-users on a variety of hardware and software issues. .
  • Configuration and administration of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request from Human Resources.
  • Provide user training as required.
  • Configure and maintain employee email accounts and support email related activity.


  • Identify, research, and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain operational runbooks, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Provide support for datacenter and cloud maintenance and operations as needed.

Other duties, as assigned




  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in system administration required.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux environments required.
  • Knowledge in PowerShell, Scripting and Automation tools.

  • Self-starter and strong drive
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products including, but not limited to Office365, Azure products and services
