The Senior Vice President ("SVP") of Health and Safety is responsible for the management of the Company's Health and Safety program and organization including primary responsibility for continuously improving employee safety performance to world-class standards, ensuring sustainable compliance, developing and implementing company-wide EHS policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, and processes, supporting service line compliance and sustainability initiatives, processing and managing systems to coordinate and utilize personnel resources across all operational lines of business, and fostering a company culture of “Safety 365” awareness. The SVP of Health and Safety is responsible for the development of a Health and Safety program strategy which meeting the requirements of the Board of Directors, customer expectations and Executive Management. The program needs to be bench marked against Industry Best Practices.
The SVP of Health and Safety will:
Manage the Health and Safety Leadership Team which consists of the senior most Health and Safety professionals in the company, all direct reports to the SVP Health & Safety. In addition the SVP Health and Safety is a permanent member of the CEO's Safety Starts with Me Committee.
Develop the companywide budget for this functional area, the training parameters for the Health and Safety staff of over 100 team members and customer and agency interface as required by the business.
Create a safety culture by developing safety systems, policies and procedures, safety campaigns, and programs to eliminate, prevent or control hazards, acts or behaviors.; Lead the development of enterprise system enhancements necessary to support tracking and reporting of Health & Safety records
Monitor, interpret and analyze business impact of EHS laws, standards or regulatory initiatives that impact the Business Unit in the geographic areas in which it does business.
Develop, integrate and execute Business Unit strategies, policies, programs, procedures, standards, training, processes and actions throughout the business organization to ensure regulatory compliance.
Develop, align and implement annual and short term H&S action plans, projects, initiatives, goals and objectives that maintain the balance between corporate objectives, business needs, and operations, including annual operating plans, capital planning, resource staffing and budgeting.
Implement corporate and business unit strategy, along with organizational requirements to develop and execute activities to achieve H&S and business objectives
Analyze all H&S implementation options; Prepare risk analyses with costs and benefits; Establish strategic planning process that leads to cost-effective and compliant operations; Align business-unit wide resources to sustain H&S and business performance; Develop and manage the departmental budget; ensuring strategic goals are funded
Ensure the adequate assessment, prevention and management of H&S issues and risks arising from operations, incidents, company service lines, including inspecting, assessing, monitoring, investigating, and recommending corrective action; Conducts trend analysis; Document compliance with standards; Perform technical work, program design and implementation, including accountability for outcomes of H&S issues
Plan, coordinate, and conduct assessments, inspections and audits to monitor compliance with H&S protocols and company requirements; Partner with operations to ensure that corrective and/or preventive measures are completed; Establish and enable processes to enhance corporate and operational capabilities for increased self-governance.
Supervise, coach, and mentor the professional development of H&S professionals
Qualified Applicants will have:
10+ years of experience in a similar or related role
Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s Degree in Business, Engineering or Technical field is preferred.
Advanced Certification in an Environmental, Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene related field.
CSP, CIH, PE preferred
Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages and customer value.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique and production methods.
Communication, organization, teamwork, project management, attention to detail, data management, public speaking, emergency response procedures, problem solving and time management
Ability to work within and design technical databases
Ability to design, implement, monitor and revise (as necessary) budget for large organization
Ability to meet with and present to agencies, customers, and potential business partners and Executive Management
Ability to travel up to 50%
