The Ann Arbor office of SmithGroup is looking for a Surveyor to join our team. SmithGroup has been named one of Southeast Michigan's Top Workplaces by the Detroit Free Press for 10 consecutive years!
Working with us, you will:
- Perform surveying tasks under the direct supervision of a senior surveyor, which includes many of the following activities:
- Prepare drawings, maps, reports using AutoCAD Civil 3D software and related software packages
- Perform field work to support survey projects
- Assist in maintaining survey equipment and survey ACAD template
- Participate in planning, design and implementation stages of project work
- Collaborate with other design professionals (Engineers, Architects, Landscape Architects and Planners)
- Assist with technical survey drawings and technical survey inquiries including but not limited to, solving parcel boundaries, create polished survey drawings, review, and evaluate title work, create easement exhibits and write legal descriptions.
- Communicate with clients, sub-consultants, and others regarding projects.
- Help grow the technical abilities of the survey team members.
- Be accountable to the project team for assuring projects are completed within established timeframes and budgets.
An ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Survey Engineering.
- 5 or more years of related experience and/or training including topographic surveys, bathymetric surveys, and boundary/legal and ALTA surveys.
- Professional registration or licensure in Michigan required.
- Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, GPS/GNSS Network (CORS) Rover, Robotic Total Stations and Data Collectors.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical and professional journals, technical procedures, maps, GIS Data Base files, legal descriptions, governmental regulations, and other complex documents.
- Strong communication skills and a desire to help others learn about land surveying.
