Principal Accountabilities

Provides co-piloting support and financial guidance for the Kansas City, MO and Miami, OK manufacturing sites in the following capacity:

Ensure integrity of financial reporting in accordance with Mars Inc. accounting policies and procedures.
Creates an engaging, high performance learning environment for peers, established through coaching and guidance for associate development, and delivery of business objectives through the performance management process.
Co-pilots the site management teams in support of operating budget creation and delivery. Identifies financial trends, performs necessary financial analysis, and provides actionable insight to site management. Models potential scenarios for the site management team, Supply Finance Senior Manager, and/or business brand management teams that support trade off decisions and investment opportunities, shift configurations, and tactics to deliver financial targets.
Supports the planning, period close, and forecasting processes as follows:
Coordinates input, administration, and execution of objectives in compliance with established timelines.
Develops site and technology financial analysis and reporting in support of planning/forecasting process.
Develops and maintains routings/standards for all items manufactured at the site.
Prepares and analyzes cause-of-change schedules each period.
Provides volume/mix analysis to support cost structure, decision making, and commitment delivery.
Completes ad-hoc analyses as required.
Co-pilots with site teams, both management and floor associates, to identify cost improvement/efficiency opportunities. Tracks savings on implemented projects and reports progress against annual efficiency targets.
Verifies proper financial controls are in place and operating effectively as follows:
Partners with site manager to foster an effective control environment.
Observes inventory cycle counts and reviews proposed inventory adjustments.
Collaborates with peer Supply Finance Managers on the standardization of inventory control processes.
Reviews inventory reconciliation to ERP system and inventory management systems to ensure accuracy of reported balances.
Coordinates efforts with external financial auditors when site is selected for inventory observation.
Performs full fixed asset inventory as required by Mars Finance Manual.
Co-pilots with site to improve financial controls if deficiencies exist.
Serves as a liaison between the site and cross-functional teams at corporate such as commercial, product development, inbound supply, and quality.
Acts as member of site management by:
Addressing shifts each period regarding Company and site financial performance.
Actively participating in site strategy and visioning sessions.
Planning for and presenting at full site events.
Assisting in planning and administration of lean rapid improvement events (RIE’s).
Takes lead role in managing the supplier claims process for the site when supplier issues arise. Works with commercial team to facilitate a timely recovery from vendor.
Works directly with central engineering to validate return on investment for potential capital projects. Also, works with both site team and central engineering to establish a detailed commissioning/validation/startup (CVS) budget when capital projects are approved.

Collaborates with Supply Finance Senior Manager and peer Supply Finance Managers to identify, develop, and deploy game changing tools that provide actionable insights to the site management team.
Contributes to the culture of accountability and responsibility at manufacturing sites by tracking action plans for key initiatives, addressing root cause issues to drive sustainable operating improvements. Identify trade-offs and escalate operating plan variances as appropriate.
Provides financial and general business training to local site associates.
Demonstrates capability to manage priorities and make sound decisions with limited supervision.

Required Functional Skills:

Working knowledge of Supply processes (Demand Planning, S&OP, Inventory flow and control, Production Scheduling, etc. )
General business acumen with demonstrated ability to understand the functional interdependencies
Ability to motivate others, communicate with all levels of organization and influence decisions throughout the organization.
Financial Insights and Analysis – The management of systems and processes to produce high-quality financial information, the application of analytical techniques to derive critical insights from this information, and the effective communication of financial information and insights to the business.
Accounting – The knowledge and application of Company specific accounting policies and principles, U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, applicable local government regulations, and transaction processing systems in order to meet business reporting requirements for providing timely and accurate reporting of financial results.
Financial Processes – The knowledge of and ability to design, implement, continually improve upon, and govern the standard financial processes in order to deliver efficient and effective financial operations with the right balance of cost, quality, control and service.
Financial Control – The knowledge and application of business processes, internal control concepts and practices, and auditing techniques to ensure cost-effective protection of business assets and approval of and governance over business activities at the appropriate level in the organization.
Financial Shaping and Decision Making – The knowledge and application of financial shaping philosophy and development and implementation of processes and tools used to shape the financial performance of the business and evaluate the activities and investments involved in deploying strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
5+ years of progressive work experience required, preferably in CPG and/or manufacturing industries.
CPA/CMA and/or MBA preferred.
Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities required.
SAP experience preferred.
Travel estimate < 25% – facilitates support of additional sites, corporate office, and Supply Finance team activities.
