Technical Supervisor: Lead the Team Powering War-Winning Software!
Are you a technical leader ready to step into a vital supervisory role at the intersection of engineering and national defense? The 521st Software Engineering Squadron (521 SWES) is seeking a First-Level Supervisor to lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of software professionals, working with programs such as F-22 Helmet Mounted Display (HMD), Government Reference Architecture Computing Environment (GRACE), and Project Fast Open X-Platform (FOX).
In this critical position, you will combine your technical expertise with operational leadership. Your team will be responsible for delivering cutting-edge software solutions that directly support the warfighter, increase weapon system capabilities, and secure our nation's military readiness.
What you will accomplish:
- As a hands-on technical supervisor, you will lead from the front, taking full operational responsibility for your assigned area. You will:
* Lead and Mentor Innovators: Exercise first-level supervisory and position management responsibilities over a dedicated team of software professionals. You will distribute workloads, coach performance, and foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Drive Weapon System Readiness: Oversee the development and execution of advanced software solutions that enable the warfighter to maintain readiness, optimize performance, and increase weapon system capabilities.
- Empower Critical Decision-Making: Guide your team in providing superior software engineering maintenance and support, delivering the critical data and systems that military leaders rely on to make high-stakes, real-time decisions.
- Provide Continuous Technical Guidance: Maintain deep, up-to-date technical knowledge to guide subordinate employees, ensuring they deliver expert advice, software accountability, and technical solutions to our program offices.
- Secure Software Excellence: Manage project schedules, risks, and technical execution, ensuring that every software release meets our rigorous standards for quality, security, and mission success.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain an appropriate security clearance
- Designated as a drug testing position and could be subject to random testing for drug use
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
- Required to travel on military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty if needed
- Per DODMAN 8140.03 and DAFMAN 17-1305, the incumbent personnel of this position must achieve the appropriate Foundational Qualification (Designated/accredited BS degree, DOD/Military Training, Personal Certification, Experience, or combination) within 9 months of assignment of these duties/assignment to this position. A Residential Qualification/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) and Annual Maintenance/Continuous Education Units (CEUs) must be completed within 13 months of assignment of these duties/assignment to this position. A waiver (6 month) extension may be granted (DODMAN 4.2.3.C and DAFMAN 17-1305 4.1.7) except for failure to pass Personal Certification.
Failure to receive a Foundational Qualification within 9 months and/or Residential Qualification/Annual Maintenance within 12 months constitutes removal of 8140 coding, removal of coding duties, and the personnel is subject to their unit's discretion to pursue administrative actions.
-Obtain & maintain an appropriate Information Assurance (IA) certifications
-Designated as a Non-Critical Acquisition Position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Professional knowledge of electronics engineering and computer science concepts, theories, principles, and practices and working knowledge of other disciplines, such as aerospace, industrial, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering; of a broad range of engineering standards, precedents, methods, and techniques to ensure work in compliance with regulations and standards; and the applicability of such knowledge to the full range of duties concerned with design, production, and maintenance of Operational Flight Programs, Automated Test Systems, Test Program Set Software, and other systems used to support the warfighter and weapons systems program offices.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
5. Knowledge of budgeting, procurement, standard configuration and finding regulations, practices and processes related to system acquisition and sustainment management functions.
