Job Description

WGU is seeking a supervisor in the  Quality Assurance department to be a player-coach in software testing and quality assurance activities. In this role you will promote the adoption of the overall quality assurance strategy for WGU and play a key role in the shaping of that strategy. This is a leadership role reporting to the director of Quality Assurance and is based in Salt Lake City at WGU’s corporate headquarters.

  

You will manage the work activities of of several QA engineers who are involved in a wide range of quality assurance activities for WGU’s IT department. Your work will include on-boarding of new employees, developing training materials, doing person-to-person training on our essential tools, as well as guidance toward best practices in all testing areas for the wide variety of WGU software, so the ideal candidate excels at collaboration, tact and patience, and can easily accept his/her own mistakes.

 

You will be responsible for mentoring the software quality assurance engineers, helping develop and implement quality assurance initiatives, automation, process improvements, testing activities and metrics gathering, as well as playing a limited role on Agile teams which may not need a full-time engineer.

  • Report current status and appropriate continuous improvement metrics
  • Help QA staff through coaching, guarding against burnout, and measuring effectiveness
  • Weekly reports on carefully-chosen testing metrics, including test results, new test case identification and code coverage
  • Provides updates and information on the team’s progress in meetings or through regular email contact and/or reports
  • Work closely with scrummasters to negotiate QA workloads as needs fluctuate
  • Be a technical expert in both process and tools to any team member
