The Supervisor Ocean/Air will oversee the Global Forwarding Agents responsible for air and/or ocean import transportation. They will spend approximately 70% (or more) of their time coaching, planning, leading and directing the work of their team. They will also manage the team’s P&L, financials, and customer base from a commercial-product focus, and performance metrics to provide a seamless customer experience and to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives of the department. The supervisor will be a leader to direct reports and uphold the same standard across the department.

Responsibilities:

Manage Operational Excellence

  • Understand all departmental functions, focus on finding efficiencies for the team

  • Responsible for problem resolution on any operational errors

  • Perform audits of activities and operational procedures for pro-active error mitigation and the promotion of best practice

Customer activity

  • Act as an escalation point for any customer issues

  • Ensure customer SOPs are adhered to

  • Participate as needed in new customer implementations, customer meetings, QBRs, etc.

  • Identify and communicate market trends or impactful changes to existing customers, to the team, department and branch

  • Conduct regular team meetings (at least bi-monthly), reviewing customer profitability and current events

  • Drive financial health through customer reviews and managing the execution of shipments

  • Create solutions for customers to improve process, efficiency, visibility, cost-savings and customer service.

Finances

  • Manage, maintain, and grow a P&L

  • Analyze financial tools to assist management, account managers, and other commercially-focused roles

  • Determine strategy for the product and customers

  • Minimize unbillable losses

Personnel

  • Motivate and support team

  • Manage PTO and approve payable time daily for direct reports in Peoplesoft

  • Deliver mid-year and annual reviews of direct reports, and initiate employee meetings as needed to address performance issues

  • Recommend personnel changes/additions as needed

  • Coordinate and oversee training and development of team

  • Maintain backup/coverage plan for all customers & activity for employee absences, including GF Agent Supervisor admin responsibilities

  • Desire to work with a collaborative team of other supervisors

  • Conduct regular team meetings, reviewing processes and current events

Technology

  • Organize/Maintain shared team records and information (G:Drive; Sharepoint, as needed)

  • Attempt to resolve system issues before escalating

  • Drive adoption of new technology as needed

Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years management experience of personnel & P&Ls (in this industry or other)

  • 5+ years industry experiencepreferred

  • Understanding of P&Ls and other business-related financials

  • Ideas for strategizing the Air freight market as a product or for customers

  • Track record of managing customer relationships & an operation in the industry

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Strong multi-tasking skills, able to prioritize ever-changing daily tasks

  • Positive attitude and drive to succeed

  • Demonstrated flexibility to department, product, and customer needs

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

  • Light travel (10%) on an as-needed basis for customer meetings, projects, etc.
