The position requires demonstrated expertise to create/modify utility substation P&C schematics with Microprocessor based and Electromechanical relays, as well as developing relay settings and associated program scripts for upload by relay technicians. The position requires excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend pre-bid and project walkdowns with the client
  • Perform technical analyses and prepare the following new documentation or modify existing documentation:
  • One-line and three-line diagrams
  • AD & DC schematics
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Relay panel layout and wiring drawings
  • Conduit and circuit lists
  • Develop relay settings and associated program scripts for upload by relay technicians
  • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource under the direction of the Electrical Department Manager.
  • Mentor members of the staff
  • Manage the workflow in projects of various size and duration

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Desired skills include but are not limited to:

Orbital is seeking a candidate with 5 or more years of relevant work experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important. Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including CAD systems, SKM or ETAP, and general Microsoft office products.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, bend and climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work in elevated or in tight, confined space type areas. Use of negative pressure, air filtering/purifying respiratory protection may be required.

Education and Credentials:

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ yr. experience
  • Demonstrated capability to create/modify substation P&C schematics with Microprocessor based and Electromechanical relays
  • Develop relay settings and associated program scripts for uploading by a relay technician
  • Develop AC & DC power schematics
  • Develop one-line & three-line diagrams
  • Develop relay panel wiring and layouts
  • Positive track record with client relationships

Preference Given To:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification and ability to obtain certification in other states
  • MS Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Working knowledge of SKM and/or ETAP analytical software or equivalent
  • SCADA experience
